Travelling in the car

Hello

Ive just bought a new car. B class Mercedes and am looking for travel suggestions. I've always used acage in the boot but thinking about it I dont think the cage would really do much except stop my dog being bodily flung as it's just a standard wire one What is best..a dog guard and a bed in the boot. A seatbelt harness or a different type of cage. How do you all manage?

Dog in question is approx cocker sized.

I've got polypropylene (heavy duty plastic) boxes. Robust and very easy to clean and can be custom made to fit any vehicle. Mine are seven years old, still wearing very well.
 
Normal plastic dog bed on the back seat, with the passenger seat pushed back to wedge it. Dog harness that clips into seat belt space. We'll skip past the re-purposed cushions with a home-made cover from polka dot material. Dog in question is a spoilt whippet sort :rolleyes:
 
Boot buddy, dog guard and divider (travall) with zooplus silhouette waterproof dog beds (I mention these because I think they are such great vfm and now have them in the house too) plus thermatex pads.


eta for a cocker sized dog I would travel them in the back seat-with a crate of some sort securely put in. There are some great back seat liners that slot in and out quickly that contain all the dog hair as well to keep the back seats nice.

well, they're rectangular but squishy ;) I am pleased with them, I thought they might squish to nothing under a bigger dog but they havent so far and they also brush off easily enough if you can't be bothered to wash them.

They seem quite good value, I may order a couple and give it a go. We have so many dog beds here cushions are an ongoing issue. Are they 6 month old teething labrador proof?

hmm, dont know about that. I bought one for Fitz for his first proper dog bed (he was a soft bed destroyer and had a platform bed for a while) and he's not destroyed yet but he does have a sacrifice blanky in there in case he has the urge! After 6 months I got one for Quarrie and he's had it a year now and its still good-then new ones for the car last November. I just give them a big poof up once a week and they get a bit of vet bed/thermatex on top.

Last evenings sacrificial blanky was the front door rug. Will order one and see how they go, thank you. Sorry OP!
 
We used to travel Daisy loose in the boot but my husband was worried about being rear-ended (she's in the car two hours a day, mostly on country roads) and didn't want an impact crate as that stops your crumple zones doing their job. We therefore ended up setting a platform on the middle seats and then using a crash tested (and passed!) Kurgo harness with seatbelt attachment.
 
In the boot with Barjo guards front and back for the big dogs, little dog goes in a crate on the back seat, ratchet-strapped and seatbelted to the seat.

If I had only one small to medium sized dog to accommodate I'd go for something like a TransK9 crate in the boot.
