I am booked on to a pole clinic tomorrow that I booked ages ago as its with a brilliant instructor.

The venue is about 30mins from me, I would have to leave about 9.30am and be returning around midday.

My lorry has 3 windows and 2 roof vents aswell as a re-chargable fan in the horse area.

Would you travel??

Personally, no.

I've been riding as normal all week but I wouldn't travel at midday tomorrow - we are predicted 32° heat here. For me it's not even necessarily the 30 minutes travelling per se but if you get stuck, it's just additional risk to the horse.

Only if your horses are slim, very fit, clipped and in need of the training for an upcoming event. If they are unfit leave them at home.

It would be a no from me.

One of my non negotiables is would the horse be ok if my transport broke down or was held by a road closure after a smash. Not in that heat in full sun.
That is a very good point. Years ago with a horse that did heat okay and wasn't as hot as forecast tomorrow but still hot, we had an issue with the lorry but managed to pull off into a trading estate and park up in the shade whilst OH fixed the lorry but it is very much something to bear in mind.

Current horse doesn't do heat, so it would be a no from me anyway at present.

We took ours out last night to a lesson, it was 28/29c? She is fit, she was sweaty when we got there but she usually does sweat in the trailer regardless of temperature…was great in the lesson and did wash off etc after. It’s only because we are training for a competition that we went. Allowed extra time to walk round and cool off and stood in the shade where we could.
It was 27 when we came home.

You are going at a cooler time of day for the actual riding part, every horse is different though x

Yes we are travelling at a similar time today. 25 mins each way, it’s all country lanes with plenty of ‘escape routes’ so I know I can easily divert or turn back if there’s a hold up and we get stuck. Horse is very fit and copes well with the heat (only broke a sweat under the girth last night being ridden in 28’c). He will be cooler with the airflow than if he was stood in his stable. Motorways or dual carriageways or anywhere I might risk getting stuck, no I wouldn’t do it.
