Me and my girlfriend planning a trip this summer to Dartmoor and Exmoor. We will be travelling in the steps of Enid Blyton's "Famous Five". We will go horseriding and hiking for some days.

My question is if any one theese days in UK wear rubber riding boots. I find my old Aigles suitable for this trip if it will be rainy weather but I don't want to loook like a complete fool/beginner..! For about ten years when my girlfriend worked on Ireland, many riders used them for all day riding and hunting. In our country, Sweden, nearly no one wears them today but about 20 years ago they were quite common.

If anyone have some ideas about this trip, please share! The Famous Five was my favorite books when I was a child.

You'll be fine in rubber riding boots especially as occasionally there is rain on the Moors. I hope you have a fun filled holiday.

I always wear rubber riding boots.
You are quite correct that far less people wear them but they are still available as I bought a new pair a few months ago.
I hope you have a great holiday (we used to take our horses on holiday on Exmoor and stay at a pub in Exford which had stables and a small paddock to turn them out on) .

Thank you for your answers regarding the boots! Then I don't need to bring jodhpur boots, I'll do fine with the rubber boost even if the sun is shining. I will bring wellies for hiking but I'm not so fond of riding with them.

Please let me know if you know some good pubs or B&Bs! :-)

Rubber riding boots aren't worn so much now as a) leather boots are a lot more affordable (from China?) and b) for everyday riding most people wear jodhpur boots and leather chaps. But I hunted for several years in long rubber riding boots and came to no harm. At least you can jump off into a puddle or mud if need be.
