Travelling microchips

I’m just sitting here cuddling George and I felt a little hard bit on the front of his chest.... automatic investigation to make sure it’s nothing awful and I’ve realised it’s his microchip!

I assume he was chipped in the back of the neck as usual and it’s travelled, has anyone had to re-chip ever? Or can they always be found? I’ve never felt one so noticeable/near the surface before!
 
Yes I’m aware of that, I was just wondering if they ever became ‘unfindable’ as such. I’m quite surprised it has been rejected as a foreign body (like say a thorn would be) as it’s so near the surface
 
Hector has his down his left front leg now. Still detectable when scanned. I have both horses and dogs checked at vaccination time to make sure the chip is still readable. The vet does not even charge.
 
Not dogs but cats. Both cats are no longer with us, but Gingers chip we could always feel between his shoulder blades, and Rio’s chip migrated down his front left leg. I always asked the vet to scan them to check when they went in for a routine check ups.
 
Cool I’ll just keep getting it checked then - having said that, I’ve no idea where any of the chips on the other four dogs are! I’ve just never been able to feel them so it has never crossed my mind 😄
 
Yes I've known a dog where it vanished (we tried three chippers for over an hour). Had to have it redone and all documentation redone, her health tests were tied to original chip, was a bit of a headache.

Both mine have had their chips travel and have location noted in passports. Tippex helps 😂
 
We had to rechip after one ended up next to an elbow. A friend of mine involved in rescue advised it, she reckoned not all rescues/vets do a full body scan on a stray so for peace of mind we had him redone.
 
E cat's one is half way down his off side forearm, he's now 8 and the chip was put in a year ago when he was still in rescue cat kennels.
I thought that's what it was when checking him in June, so popped him into vets to get scanned to double check. They have noted the location, also have uploaded a photo of him onto their system too.
