hello, i have posted on here a few times about my wb beeing very excitable, this time tho its about my little 14hh

we have a black ifor williams trailer, my dad bought it new anout 2 years ago now, they both traveled in it fine but a while ago the 14hh when the 2 are in it she goes on the left cuz shes the smallest and for a while she was fine but now she is doing what looks like trying to lie down, we used to think it was the wb not given her enough room she used to stick her head over the partition but i went in the trailer to see and what holly is doing is leaning into the partition and then kicking kinda thing, she doesnt do it when shes on her own in the right hand side, and when i went in the trailerdown the track she didnt do it wen i held her up by the head collar, ive tried tieing her up tighter but it doesnt seem to help, shes a good pony so its really weird why she would do it, it seems to get her stressed as wen she gets out the trailer she is sweeting and her nostrels are massive, ive said to my dad that we should just swap them over but he says its to dangerous, the 14hh is a connemara cross and the dutch warmblood is 16hh, there is a partition in the trailer incase u thought there wasnt

any help would be very greatly appreciated

thanks
Alex

Try taking her somewhere on her own on the other side of the trailer - it's probably cos she's finding balancing difficult

not sure but interested in replys.ive just bought a horse for my daughter and she does similar.i was advised to try her in trailer on her own without partition and full size breast bars as lots of horses prefer more room to balance.not tried yet to see.look forward to see what others think

well unfortunatly we couldnt do tht cuz of the other horse, but shes fine in the right side of trailer so it doesnt make sence

When i bought one of mine i was told he had to travel on the left. After a few years one day we decided to travel him on the right. Only went 5 miles and he was a nervous wreck! Put him back on the left and he was fine. No idea why. Travelled him like that for years and never had a problem with the trailer.
I would put him on the side he is happier on

I had problems loading my 14hh on the right last week and I tried her on the left and she went right in. She usually goes on the right when on her own but when we had a TB he went in the right and she always went in the left; she must have preferred it. I have always thought you load up from the right to give more stability to the trailer, and supposedly the horse on the left has a rougher ride due to the edge of the road being bumpy, but now I'm not sure about either of those things. Interesting to hear other opinions.

Exactly - we had a pony who began doing this, he travelled fine for a year and then suddenly began leaning into the partition, eventually he got worse and worse until as soon as we closed the doors he'd practically hurl himself on the floor! We solved it by simply moving the back section of the parition over (and tying it open) or removing this section completely. We also travelled him with no partition at all (with full length breast bars) and again, he was perfectly happy. Ive heard of other horses doing this and every single one is solved by removing the back bit so they can stand slightly to the side.

Dont remove the entire partition as you have 2 horses but simply remove the back section (as long as they get on and wont kick each other). I travelled another horse with the pony above like this no problem.

Cant you try swapping them over, travelling the smaller one on the right, just to see if it makes a difference.

louby
i think i will try this, my dad says its to dangerous but we dont travel in bad weather so it shouldnt be a problem
