Travelling Tips Please.

I am taking my horse to Rockley Farm in December and am going to hire a horsebox for my OH to drive. Tips please for travelling him. He is normally happy enough loading etc. I have boots and a thermatex. How long for a 155mile journey? How often should we stop with him? Anything else besides taking hay/haylage water and some feed. Oh and musn't forget his passport!

Quick message to say good luck.
My mare went there in march and hasnt looked back.
Was a 4 hour journey and we only stopped once to offer water, just made sure she had lots of haylage to chomp at.
I would say just boot and rug as normal....i didnt rug as Ruby hadnt been rugged at all all winter so didnt want her to stress or sweat.x
 
Spare head collar and lead ropes, just in case. Extra rug. Take two nets, one as a spare, and plenty of water.

And make sure you have breakdown cover, so you can get back home incase anything happens.

I think that just about covers it. I'd put some shavings down incase he needs a wee. I'd tell oh to approach junctions very slowly.
 
AA route finder will give you an estimated time for the journey. I add about 20% on top of that as I tow with a trailer.

It depends a lot on the type of A roads you'll be using. On a nice straight dual carriageway you can keep up a decent speed, but narrow wiggly roads or lots of roundabouts will knock your speed right down when you've got a horse on board. The return journey should be noticeably quicker, traffic permitting.

Have enough forage and water for at least 12 hours though in case there is an accident ahead or a road closure, or you have a breakdown.
