Travelling with hay in trailer

I am going on camp this weekend.
I have bought two small bales of hay to take with me. Dad doesn't want the hay in his car if at all possible.

I was thinking I could put the hay in the spare space in the trailer (only one horse in there) has anyone done this? Is there a way to do it/not do it to make sure its safe
 
You can buy (or make) nylon hay bags that cover a whole bale. They stop bits dropping off so your dad would be happier if it had to go in the car, and your horse happier if it had to go in the trailer.
 
Yes, lots. I put the horse in first, then put the hay in the spare bay down the back of the float by the door, against the wall. That way it's not under horses nose, and as far away as possible from legs. I can also take it out easily before unloading.
 
I took hay with me to a camp once and just put it all in haynets and hung them up, so they were ready to go each day and off the floor.
 
I have done this, if you drive normally the hay should not squiz underneath the partition. A tied up bale of hay will not shed more dust than a horse eating from a net, so if your hay is good and your horse not sensitive it should not be problematic. To be fair, I would not like a bale of hay or two in my boot either!
 
Just use a ratchet strap to secure the bales to the side of the trailer so they can't slide about.

How much hay do you all think Ill need? Setting off Friday afternoon so ill need Friday evening/night hay plus all day and night Saturday and all day Sunday before heading home about 6.30pm Sunday. Do you think 1 bale or two? Hes a good doer cob.
