Just wondered who travels there horses in trailers with no partition inside, i don't do this but know a few people who do it as there horses are difficult to load with partition in but go straight on when it's not in there

when chico started to refuse to load in my horsebox i had a professional out to him.
She said to do away with the partition because it wasnt needed and only made Chico feel more claustrophobic.
So now i use the horsebox without the partition and not had any problems.

I dont, sorry, lol, but thought I would mention, there is some law, or regulation im sure thats states if a horse is travelled without a partition, it must be unshod behind... just as a heads up if you are thinking of doing it

I never used a partition when I had a trailer. My then horse was good to load but needed the extra room to balance and used to stand diagonal in it.

My horse was very hesitant to load with the partition in the trailer (a big rice) so I thought I would try without and she now puts herself in and travels brilliantly,I will never travel her with it in again!

Never heard of this one before.

Another one is this
I always thought it was law to have a breast bar but after a discussion on here, no law could be found for that.

As I only travel my horse on his own, I don't see the point in having a partition in, he travels with his arse in 1 corner and his head in the opposite corner happy as larry. :) :) :)

Have travelled our gelding a couple of times with no partition - this is because we also have a mare and foal, partition was taken out to accommodate them. He loved it! We loved it too the day it absolutely poured down with rain and because there was no partition, we had the space to tack him up inside the trailer in the dry. We gave him 2 haynets, one each side and he chose to travel on the diagonal, and was happy to turn around inside the trailer and come out forwards on the back ramp. Normally he only comes out the front ramp, he absolutely hates backing out, so we don't make him do it unless there really is no alternative. Very interesting.

I don't think so.

A lot of horses are better travelling without a partion, it makes it easier for them to balance. I would always use a full-width breast bar and have the horse cross-tied, but I guess you could check with the manufacturer of the trailer to see what is safe.

my boy travels best in a trailer with no partition will go in a lorry or partitioned trailer but really struggles to balance...(he is actually unshod behind too but never heard of the law..)
