Hi

I have had for six month a new horse, she’s only four years old, and has been an angel to load in our trailer, unfortunately she’s had to have a few visits to the vets for numerous issues, we are now back to full health and have been taking her out for a few pleasure outings, but she has become very anxious traveling, it’s like having Tigger in the back of the trailer, when waiting at traffic lights or arriving at destination all hell breaks loose, and recently she has managed to get one front leg over the breast bar! She didn’t panic, just waited for us to release it for her, we have tried tying her short, cross tying, with boots, without boots, with hay, unfortunately a companion is not an option as its only a single trailer, I’m running out of ideas now, any advice would be most appreciated, many thanks.

Are there any rattles in the trailer, is the ride smooth? Does she have space to balance herself?
OH mare got terribly anxious when travelling in an Ifor williams. She would often load ok, but sometimes it took a long time just calmly having her face the trailer and waiting it out (rushing her = rearing so it was just a case of getting her to do what we want with the consession of doing it in her way)! When loaded though she would just stand and shake bless her. She was a little better with company, but still clearly very worried about the whole thing.
Turns out the slightly rougher ride of the Ifor really seemed to scare her. She is now in a wessex olympian and as calm as anything - has made a huge difference.
