Has anyone travelled on a ferry with their horse? Cost, how they traveled (behaviour... were they tired...scared...etc), where did you travel to/from, was it a long journey.... did you give them anything before the journey....urm and any other info you can give me would be fantastic

Thankyou

PF has been on the ferry but I wasn't with her. She went from Cambridge to Paris to catch the plane to Argentina. I think the trip cost £900, so rather expensive, and I was warned they might not be able to make the crossing as the channel was rather rough.
As far as I know they didn't give her anything (i certainly didn't authorize it!) but she's an excellent traveller so I wouldn't have thought she'd need it.
Sorry I can't be of any more help!

Have travelled numerous horses to Southern Spain and 1 back here - never had 1 travel badly but I have always used very good companies who give the horses the best of attention (can thoroughly recommend ECS Horse Transport) - never given the horses anything as in calmers

I used to live on an island and so any horse coming on or going off the island had to go on the boat. All off them were fine and we just treated it just like an other in the hour on the road. We gave them hay and water before we left them as your not allowed on the car deck while the boat is moving.

the horses were i work travel abroard lots to compete, not sure on the price of it all, but they all travel really well but they do it alot, when Mouse came over from Ireland she had lost a lot of weight and was very tucked up but then she isn't the best traveller anyway and tends to get her nickers in a twist!!!

Thanks....my boy travels ok...did a 6 hour journey down to us and got off the trailer as if he'd been travelling for about 1/2 an hour, was a bit excited and the snow didn't help but nevermind, they said he'd traveled really well!

should not differ from being in a lorry really. I once had 10 horses on a ferry for 5 days from italy to Malta, just made sure they had a lot of hay and fresh water, tried to skip out as best as we could. They were all fine happy to be off and stretch legs at other end, but fine!!
