I have just discovered my in foal mare has lice. Could anyone suggest an effective and safe treatment to clear her before she goes to stud next month?

good old loose powder and cattle spot on from the vets!

Louse powder is a waste of time. We use Coopers Fly Repellent Plus - on vet's advice. Does the trick - but repeat in 14 days to get newly hatched lice and any you missed the first time around.

Another vote for coopers. Check with vet if safe for pregnant mares though, i dont know if it is or isnt

Spot on for cattle treat now then in 6-8weeks. I have never needed to do the second treatment but do as par of the course, also i shake louse poweder over the inside of their rugs

On the vets advice I have dusted her with lice powder. I couldn't believe how many thousands of little brown creepy crawlies came to the surface. I have repeated the treatment a week later and washed all rugs and brushes. The problem now is how do I know she is clear. When I brush her there is still lots of powder in her coat and now I am wondering is it powder or could it be eggs. She is a very big hairy mare and it was a very big job!
