Tried searching & there's so many pages! Just wondered what methods everyone has used - what works - and what they cost?! I've got a 3yr old with one & I've been using radiol b-r bone embrocation & I'm just waiting for the blistering to heal so I can see what's underneath - I'm not sure whether it's worked or not tho! Has anyone ever used lemons? & if so how quickly do you need to start with them? Thanks!

Cold hosing, ice, more cold hosing, more ice, and don't box rest. And once they are settled, magnets. Splintex, DMSO, lemons, blistering, they truly don't work. You have to let the splint settle without causing damage, then allow it to be reabsorbed. And look very closely at the hoof balance.

Thanks! He's been out all the time until having to come in last week with mud fever - although he's still getting turned out in the school. I really hope it does reabsorb as I want to continue showing him.

DMSO did work for me - twice on 2 different horses. Both splints took a very long time to settle (about 4 months) but the DMSO sorted them out very quickly when it was finally prescribed. One splint has reabsorbed completely but it took a long time (at least a year, maybe longer). The other splint came up in Feb this year and is slowly getting smaller....

Don't think there is a quick fix for splints though - it's just time that heals.
