Hi everyone i was just wondering if anyone has any ideas of no sugar treats my loan pony is on a strict diet as she has fat pockets and is known to have had laminitis in the past she has limited grazing loads of exercise etc but i really want to be able to give her a treat after our ride to say shes done good and we have always given her a treat after we ride and she knows this because she starts neighing in her stable i dont want to completley stop giving her treats so i was just wondering if its ok for her to have like a slice of apple or carrot or not and also can anyone recommend any sugar free treats x

I use Thunderbrooks hay cobs as treats for mine. Nothing nasty in them and I have natives who are prone to weight gain and one prone to laminitis.

Works out a lot cheaper than buying other treats as it’s sack of them.

Word of warning though, feed one at a time and make sure they chew them. I accidentally dropped one on the yard when it was raining and it swelled up huge, so I feed them slowly. Mine all go mad for them so they Must be good! https://thunderbrook.co.uk/shop/equine-feeds-balancers/hay-cobs-20kg/

Do you use them as feed or just treats and how long do they last and how much do you give a day i have a 13.1 highland cross x

I actually just use them as treats but having thought about it, I did put them in their treat balls last summer and they were fine with them. The website gives you feeding guidelines, which might help. I have 4 Neddies so my “how long do they last” might not help you with just one. x

They'll obviously last as long as how many you give. The hay cobs come in a 20kg sack, perhaps have a look at the size of the bags of treats youve been using previously and you can get an idea how long they'd last you? ?
