Tredstep gloves falling to pieces - AIBU?

I wanted to get some opinions before I act so here goes...

I purchased some Tredstep Winter Silk gloves at the start of February this year for £35, after being worn twice the 'grippy' layer on the inside of two fingers and some of the palm had rubbed off on both gloves. Unhappy with this for such expensive gloves (to me anyway) I returned them to the tack shop who sent them away to Tredstep. Tredstep sent a replacement pair so I assumed that maybe it had just been a dodgy pair.

So I have worn my second pair for riding only since second week in Feb. I have not done any yard duties etc in them, they are only on my hands when I am on top of a horse. After a couple of weeks the stitching around the velcro started coming undone but not wanting to make a fuss again I just decided to ignore it. Then the tip of the right thumb came slightly unstitched. The grippy material also rubbed off very quickly again but at this point I just resigned myself to putting up with it.

However today whilst riding I looked down to see the stitching on one finger of my left hand had come completely undone and the material is hanginh apart - photos are below - and I'm just so annoyed. I used a gift voucher for my mum to buy tham as I wouldnt normally buy expensive gloves but they are just rubbish and I feel I've wasted my money.

What I want to ask is should I return the gloves again, I have only had them for about 10 weeks so am I realistic in thinking they for £35 they should have lasted longer than this?

I dont want them to think I'm being unreasonable if I go back to the tack shop with them so want your opinions.

I can't see the pictures, but from what you describe, I would be very unhappy. For me that is an expensive pair of gloves, my cheap pimple ones last a couple of months, doing yard work in too, and I ride for a living!!

Crikey! That's a fairly serious issue! Gloves should definitely last longer than 10 weeks if you're only using them for riding (and most will stand up okay to yard work for longer than that, too). I don't think you're being unreasonable to be unhappy, but not all that sure the tack shop will be willing to replace/refund them.

Personally, I'd cut my losses and buy a pair from Tuffa or Noble - both brands I've found to last well and fit comfortably - but obviously you might have different glove preferences; so go with what suits.

Would it be any good emailing Tredstep to make them aware of the problem as it really disappointing to have two pairs let me down.

Not you are not being unreasonable! My ariats and macwets cost similar and last years. I would be returning them and requesting a full refund.

Email Tredstep. I had a small problem with the zip on some of their chaps and they were very helpful even though I had bought them 18m ago at a show.

I bought some tredstep show hunter gloves and they did exactly the same thing. I don't think they had ever been stitched properly. I had saved them for shows so I didn't take them back as I had them for a few months before I wore them. I won't be buying any more!

yes! - bought the jumping ones and they lasted quite well and I really liked them so bought a second pair and they did exactly the same after just a few weeks and barely any use. I changed to Mac Wets and they are much better although not quite as comfy.

Good news, after posting on Tredsteps facebook page they contacted me today asking from my mobile number then promptly phoned me directly. The lady from Tredstep was very apologetic about the situation and said they were going to look into it with the manurfacturers as the gloves shouldnt perform so badly. As a gesture of good will they are sending me a brand new pair of gloves (of a different style) free of charge.

Tredstep have redeemed themselves and, as long as these new gloves dont disintigrate too, may have held on to a customer. There is hope for the fate of customer service yet....

Forgot to add that they told me that any Tredstep product that is purchased from one of their recommended retailers carries a full 1 year manurfacturers warranty, good to know.
