I have decided to get the cob a treeless saddle, any idea where i can find one that is not advertised as £650, looking to spend up to £150 so second hand but in good condition would do.

Have to say, I've not heard many great things about cheap treeless saddles... I certainly wouldn't buy one. I think most saddles tend to be cheap for good reasons, although obviously it is a generalisation.

Please don't get a cheap treeless saddle, the stirrup bars are attached by a piece of webbing over the horses spine and cause huge amounts of pressure on the horses back. I've seen second hand barefoots for 300 though. I wouldn't be spending any less tbh.

Look for a second hand barefoot. There's plenty of bargains to be had. I've had my barefoot saddle about 3 months now and I absolutely love it. My mares happier than she's ever been, working through her back better than ever, and I find it incredibly comfortable :).

Don't buy a cheaply made one - you will cause damage to your horse. Use the recommended pads with whatever saddle you buy, and do trials before you buy wherever possible :)

Better a decent treeless second-hand than a cheapie one new.
If you buy anything with solid pommel and cantle be careful to make sure that the fit is right and that the saddle is big enough so that you don't put pressure on the cantle with your... posterior.

We both adore our Barefoot - I will not be using a treed saddle again. Cannot recommend them highly enough. You should be able to get a second hand one from ebay withing your budget. :)

I have a libra. I got it second hand off eBay. It's a hakabout and it is very comfy and my mare likes it but I do find it puts me in a bit of a rubbish position. I only bought it to see if we'd like treeless and we are looking to upgrade now but it has served us well so far. I'm pretty sure the hackaouts are an older model anyway so they might have ought the stirrups a little bit further forward on the newer ones.

I bought a new libra trec £185 about a month ago... got to say im very impressed as are my horses, bought it for my youngster who seems to change shape every day and she can be sharp, was worried it would slip etc but so far its been brilliant, shes shyed spun etc and saddle stayed put, she works much better in it than treed, also when hacking I had to get off to open a gate and had to mount from a very small log and it didn't budge, its really comfy etc...also tried it on my dales with quite prominent withers and it fit him lovely with the libra pad underneath and he rode beautifully in it, had a good fast canter etc...the only thing I would say is im not sure id jump in it as no knee rolls but haven't tried yet..takes a little bit of getting used to riding treeless bt love the close feeling I have and as a starter saddle im very impressed for the money...also when checking their backs on returning nice even sweat marks and spine completely clear !
