Anybody know anything about treeless saddles i do a bit of endurance stuff in the summer and have the chance of a treeless saddle at a reasonable price from someone but i know squat about theses saddles. Will they damage the horses back any info on them would be helpful, i know they are no use for jumping but this will be for hacking only.

I sell Solution saddles, and you can do anything in them (we do jumping, GP and 2 dressage models, and a lot of people use them for endurance).

It's like anything else you may put on your horse's back, you can do damage if you don't fit them properly, but fitting ours is straightforward once you have been shown, and the benefits to the horse are enormous.

I would say however that there are some very bad treeless saddles on the market, and I would be careful what you buy. What make is the one you have been offered? Some of the cheap ones are quite simply death traps, and you are right that some makes are not suitable for jumping.

If you want to ask me anything, feel free to pm me, I won't try to sell you one of mine I promise

I have a Heather Moffett SBS and a GP Solution saddle. I love them both.

As above, there are plenty of treeless saddles I wouldn't put on my horses back, but then there are plenty of treed saddles I wouldn't put on her back either

.

What make is it?

I am unsure of the make but i think it was one of the more expensive ones. I have no idea of how much money a new one costs or what makes are the best.

It's a bit of a can of worms! You will find people argue passionately for or against and there's not much middle ground. Personally I don't use treeless saddles and probably wouldn't do, but equally there are others using them day in, day out. I'd recommend you REALLY do your research, try and find unbiased sources and bear in mind the saddle must be right for your horse's shape, and what you do, not just for you. Good luck!

I have the Barefoot Dressage - it is very very comfortable for hacking in. However, last night when jumping 2'6 I do confess it is horrible to jump with - will stick to my WH.

I bought it for my cob who was three years old and I knew was going to change shape constantly and it has been great for general schooling and hacking. I also used it on my old clyde who loved it, and have tried it on our new clydie who goes well in it, but her treed saddle fits fine so tend to use that.

I swop between treed and non-treed on my cob with no problem.

As others have said, avoid the very cheap ones, check it fits and some horses love it and other don't, ditto riders.

I have to say that for long rides, my Barefoot is superb in terms of comfort for me.

Is it possible to put a picture of the saddle on here? Maybe someone will be able to identify it for you.

I have a Torsion (which is on of the more expensive makes, but the original treeles from which all others were copied) and find it an excellent saddle. They don't suit all horses, and they don't fit all horses. Beware of the cheaper ones as they are cheap for a reason!!
