I know there's a lot of post been about these but I just wondered what people's thoughts on them are?

I am considering buying a treeless saddle for my older horse and wondered if anyone could share their experiences

Thanks

I had the barefoot cheyenne for my cob. Ridden treeless for 4 years previously and bought one on the good reviews and unfortunately while the saddle itself was fine and lovely to ride in, it was WAY too long for my short backed horse and it caused rub marks on his lower back. So only lasted a few weeks and it was back on ebay. I would recommend doing the trails with as many treeless makers as you can. They are expensive to buy so it needs to be right first time. I'm back in a Thorowgood cob because I couldn't find a treeless short enough to fit him and also I started jumping and found the mid price range treeless useless for jumping safely. Wish I could afford the top range saddles because I would prefer him in treeless but sadly I can't.

Thanks JSR, it so happens thats the one im looking at the chaynee.

They offered a 7 day trial so might be worth having a look and there is a £30 return fee. Might try and find someone who has one to have a look at first. I cant afford the more expensive ones although they are lovely.

Did you feel secure in yours? They do look as though you might wobble around a little in them? I dont jump, just schooling, hacking and dressage

Yes very very secure. Jumping was horrific but for hacking it was lovely! My lad is extreamly spooky and in 4 years of treeless I never once was unseated by a spook, you feel like you are sitting in the horse rather than on..if that makes sense? They do take time to adapt to and some horses really don't take to them but for certain types they are excellent. I really do rate them but with all the added extra's you need it's not a cheap option and for me I couldn't afford to have a treeless for hacking and another saddle for jumping and XC so I had to make the choice to have a 'normal' saddle.

I have had a cheyenne for years now - I love it - very secure, as previous poster said, spooks are easy to sit. I used in on a high withered TB and now on my cob. I have one of the memory foam seat savers for it too, so it is uber comfy!

I have two of them at the moment - I am selling the drytex size one as I never use it (only have one horse!).

That's thats great - they do sound quite good and as my boy wont jump then sounds ideal for what we want.

Serephin - if you are selling yours I might well be interested if its a size one

Thanks

I was planning on sticking it on ebay but haven't got around to it yet - PM me if you would like some more details. :)

Same as all saddles, don't suit everyone. I have a treeless & love it, some people hate it.
