I’m currently having riding lessons but these are all in the arena and as part of ‘operation build confidence’ I’d love to go on some longer hacks/rides out in the countryside. I haven’t been out hacking since last summer and am missing it. Plus before I get a new riding horse I’d like to spend as much time in the saddle as I can. Can anyone recommend good places in the northeast? Preferably around Durham/North Yorkshire - thanks

‘Boltby trekking‘ is good, by Sutton Bank near Thirsk. Saltburn riding centre used to do beach hacks but closed. If you’re coming from the Middlesbrough side Friar’s Hill at Sinnington, near Pickering, also has access to some lovely hacking country.
