Old Gordon setter out for a walk yesterday and suddenly started trembling all over, quickly got her home and she was fine shortly after.Any ideas, some sort of fit ? she was totally with it mentally. Is fine this morning. I did have a bit of a panic that she could have eaten some cannabis, as the area where we sit in the park is used by the local partakers :(

Is cold not more likely? Weather has been very changeable and she may be feeling it /her age?

Mine shakes impressively when chilly (now has rain coat as it was when damp)

Clodagh, its my other dog with the heart murmur, think this one was passed fit ! She's been fine since so fingers crossed it was a one off

Dogs tremble for all sorts of reasons and when it's really noticeable, it's rarely because they're cold. Some of the Setter breeds are given to showing stress levels and they often aren't entirely obvious. Dogs stress in all sorts of ways and we can often ignore them because we don't always see what's before us. Just a thought.

Mine gets water logged (lots of fur but no guard hairs) and as a small entire male is quite slim so not much insulation - rain coat sorted it. So, whilst I'm not saying it is the case for OP's dog (clearly not in those temps!), I'm pretty sure it does happen with some of the longer coated ones.

Fits can have environmental triggers so worth having a think if there are any changes to e.g. cleaning products in the home/things she'll have come in contact with on the walk?

Fingers-x for a one off too.

Whilst I'm not saying that it never happens, because I'm not a vet, but of the few dogs which I've seen which have been fitting, none has been conscious as your's was and none have remained standing so I think it highly unlikely.

Our old BT travelled fine in the car and my 7.5 lorry but in the little lorry he trembled violently to the point that I stopped travelling him in it. There was just something that upset him, once out of the lorry he was fine. Could your dog have seen or smelled something that upset him?

I'd be inclined to think that something upset her too - based on my setter owning experience! Mine shakes like a leaf if something happens that doesn't meet with his approval. The last thing to set him off was me making him get in the car to go up and feed the horses, rather than walking up through the field!

seizures ime the dog is not with you-the ones I have witnessed range from a short absence to full on frothing at mouth, on floor, biting tongue and being quite out/acting strangely of it even when they've come round.

my old setter did have a weird absence like episode-no trembling, just a small tic in his head and fixation on something I couldn't see, didnt last long.

maybe she was spooked by something -could even have been a smell or sound that you weren't aware of?

Well she,s been fine since, so I will never know ! She is such a lovely girl, I hope she will be with me for a couple of years. Got me all Gordon broody again !

My dog has idiopathic epilepsy and although hasn't had an actual seizure in over a year does have absences similar to what you describe. comes round very quickly and is absolutely fine afterwards! I wouldn't worry too much if its a one off
