Trend of moving yards.

People just do not seem to talk anymore and I believe it is also the case of 'the grass is greener on the other side.'
I am a problem solver by nature and admittedly can be a bit like a bull in a china shop when I get an idea but I always talk to the YO about any problem and try and find a solution.

I will be on my current yard two years in April, the reason I moved was the previous yard owner was giving up... I went door knocking and found where we are now (it was empty at the time), the whole yard then moved with us! Since then people have moved out of the area and 2 are leaving/just left for various reasons, fingers crossed the pros of the other yard work out better than the cons on the current one.

I like to list the good and bad about the yard and rate the facilities I need in order...

1. All year good turnout
2. Safe enviroment (stable, fencing etc..)
3. Riding options (hacking, school???)
4. Distance from home
Also ...cost, storage, worming plan, poo picking, trailer parking, hay and bedding availbility and quality, other faciltites (toilet, kitchen, tack room), people etc etc etc...
 
Vote with your feet, if you don't like a yard for whatever reason then look for somewhere where you will be happy.
If you had done your research in to the yard before moving on to it then you might find you having to move less but there are plenty of yards out their offering various livery options at various prices so people have the luxury of choice.
Choice is good as hopfully it keeps livery yards on their toes to offer the best service possible.
I've been on my yard for 7 years and there are plenty of things that peeve me but then I look at the plus sides and the other yards in my area and I know I'm on the best one for me.
We all know how expensive horses are so why pay for somewhere your not happy? You wouldn't keep going back to the same shop if the service or experience you received was poor so why stay somewhere that is spoiling your enjoyment of your horse?
I agree that the first thing you should do is have a chat with the person or YM/YO to resolve any problems but sometimes that isn't always possible.
A nice yard is a major part of keeping a horse so find the right one before you move.
 
I am hoping to move yards but want to find a place all to myself! I have been at my present yard for about 11 years, and although it is very basic I can keep my horse as I want to, strip grazing, winter turnout, getting own in hay etc. But it is a bit far from home especially since we have had this dreadful weather, real struggle getting there, it is totally DIY so have had no help, and also problems with another livery. However my horses are happy. I have been on three yards in over 25 years so not too bad, others with horses all in together and no one poo picking which is something I cant put up with !
