Trials and tribulations - pics!

PMSL!

TBH I have more knowledge/experience with League people and they are moving forward with all aspects, breed and working, but BAGSD is a good organisation too and some of their members compete at the highest levels, so it's a matter of which is closest and/or suits the dogs best.

Always have two because you reward the dog for bringing the first one back, with the second one. Sounds like he has drive :)

Ohh, I'd been rewarding him with praise/play and chucking it for him again quickly. I'll definately try two toys next time though, as the bringing it part he does naturaly, but giving it up not so much. He'd probably hand it over much more happily if he knew the other one was going to be flung at any moment :) That is, if he doesn't drop it half way back in order to arrive quicker, least I can't grumble about recall :o (I will fully take that comment back when he is 6-18 months btw).

You can clip a line onto the rope and so if he drops it, you can reel it in, keeping it active might also encourage him to hold onto it.

If you do go to a training club they can explain in loads of detail how the dog is allowed to 'win' the ball, and how to incorporate it all with obedience etc. He'll give it up a lot easier if he knows that giving one up results in getting another.

I wouldn't do anything too intense as regards retrieving right now, IE getting him to peg it over long distances for balls at this age, because at that age they will wreck themselves (no sense! :p)

Aye he's only allowed that kind of play for short periods and distances, his boring mum is paranoid about his hips :o Stupid creature will quite happily roll a*se over head, typical useless puppy-breaks, front end stops and butt keeps moving lol.

Will definately look into a training club when he's older. It's difficult enough keeping him amused now, never mind when he's grown up and decided he no longer needs to sleep flat out for large parts of the day :D

She is only six months old and won everything going that day, despite being knackered. You can tell the quality, P waited a long time for her and he was so chuffed, he was on the phone to Sue the minute he came out of the ring, look out for her, she is going to go far!

PS when you're ready, if you want something from closer to home, I can point you in the direction of where that black dog came from :D
