Trick Challenge for my GSD!

Hello all,

I need a new trick to teach my German Shepherd - can anyone recommend a good one?

He does sit, stay, down, roll, high five, take a bow, as well as a very cute 'bang bang, you're dead!'

Looking for something mid-level - he's 5ish, clicker trained and a previously starved rescue so very food motivated and picks things up pretty quickly, although he's no canine Einstein ;) - and we haven't done a new one in a while so we're a bit rusty

Any suggestions welcome!

aww he is lovely.
my friends dog can lie on a blanket/towel and and cover herself with it and also `say prayers` where front paws are put on the the worktop and the dog tucks her head between them.
these she taught with the clicker and tiny steps at a time.
also putting toys back in the basket.
 
We have not mastered them yet- but my collie will put her front feet on a box and then move around the box. I Use an upside down washing up bowl!
We are also attempting marching feet as a step up from just giving paw and trying to go backwards in a straight line

I have recently bought Silvia Trkman's Puppy Diary in anticipation of my new puppy (hopefully next year) which focuses on foundation exercises, tricks and building a great training bond between you and your dog (suitable exercises for all ages of dogs). Silvia is a top agility competitor but her tricks are suited to every kind of dog and not just those who compete in agility (I don't!).

How about 'touch' and turn around? Mine will point to things I put on the floor. E.g. if I say 'TV remote!' he'll run over and touch it.

Turn around is also easy and fun.

I've taught mine to close doors.

Get a post-it note and teach them to touch this with a paw or nose; move post-it to an open kitchen cupboard door. When they touch it and as they push it say "close the door" and eventually they won't need the post-it note any more, and will close any door. Useful for when you can't be bothered to get up to shut a door..! ;)

Was just to suggest the same thing! I agree very useful .. although my dog started by closing them gently but now (in her enthusiasm) slams them shut like a moody teenager! I did it by getting her to target a credit card, went on to stick it on the door, & then removed it (hubby says he much prefers this use of my card card than my normal use)
 
If you ever walk on a longish lead then teaching to reverse back around things (trees, lamp posts, pedestrians etc) can be handy.
