I am considering buying my horse a trickle net, she is a fast eater and has been diagnosed with ulcers in the past so id like her hay to last as long as possible as she is currently getting two hay nets and some on the floor, and she is only 14.1hh!! She troughs through it and i cant afford to feed her more and more!
HOWEVER, i tried double netting her shires hayledge nets and she refused to eat from it and in the morning it was still 3/4 full! Which worried me quite alot!

Will she refuse to eat from a trickle net as well? Or will she get used to it?
Also, for a stressy horse, will they get more stressed in the long run if they dont have easier access to the hay?

Thanks for any views! :)

They learn when their hungry , its a new experiance for mine!
But my ID who gorge anything you gave him will stand and rest with the net with food in it and then eats when hungry its really been a breakthrough with him worth every penny

My tb won't eat from small holed haynets or a trickle net, he gets so angry, he pulls a few mouthfulls out and then refuses to eat and will just stand pawing the ground looking angry. So its back on the floor. He's stressy enough as it is I couldn't put him through more stress

My TB is cribbing alot less and she has a bit of hay left at the bottom of the tricklenet in the morning. When I get there which she is still trying to nibble at. For me, it's been the best £30 I've ever spent. Double netting didn't stop mine from eating fast as she learned how to match up the holes!!

Double netting barely slowed my mare down. If there was ever a case of 'animal just like owner' it is us. Greedy and impatient!

My tricklenet arrived yesterday and I was super impressed at the quality and weight. I can see why it was £30. I watched her with it last night as I thought she was going to be one angry mare but she wasn't. It seemed like a bit of a toy/challenge for her. She stopped snatching at it, figured out a technique and then happily munched on the few threads that came through each time.

I haven't seen her net yet as someone else turned her out this morning so it will be interesting to see if she had anything left.

It definitely slowed her down as she hadn't made the slightest dent in her net by the time I left the yard which isn't normal. So far I recommend for slowing but can't yet make a comment on durability.

It certain looks and weighs worth its money though!!

No double netting didnt work, as she couldnt get it out, she only ate some because i pulled it out a bit to encourage her, but she ate the bits she could reach and then stood getting upset for the rest of the time.

Im trying to keep her tummy full and her stress down!!

I'd imagine if she won't eat from a double net the trickle net would be worse. Mine will eat from a double net but gives up very quickly with the trickle net. What about double netting with one hayledge net and one normal net?
