Hi I am trying to feed a liquid supplement (only 15ml) to my mare who is out at grass, she does not have hard feed as cereal based diets irritate her gut, tried to feed her alpha-a today but she'd rather eat the grass around her, is there something i could soak with the supplement to give her a "treat" by hand once a day so she gets her supplement?? any ideas welcome!!

does she like bread? if so try puttin small amounts on bread till shes had the whole lot! or if she likes jam donuts!, open it enough to pour it in the jammy bit then give it to her!

nooooooooooo! dont feed horses bread! what about putting a bit of marmite (dissolved in water) or garlic if she likes it? or chopping up an apple or carrot?

My neddy was the same with anti-biotics and had to boil a kettle and get powder slightly runny then syringe down throat as could sniff out in feed and not eat. Messy but gets the job done (leave this one for the drastic method, lol!)

You could try some sort of beet feed - Alfa Beet, Speedi Beet etc. These are easier to mix supplements into than chaff type feeds. If you grate some apple and/or carrot into them it becomes even tastier.

The sandwich works as well - it is a method I've used in the past. You don't want to feed tons of bread as it can cause problems, but a couple of slices are unlikely to cause any harm.

Thanks everyone great ideas, guna try the sugar beet and carrots before the bread just in case! she is incredibley fussy will only have the original polo's doesn't like sugar free or spearmint!!

chaff to soak it up and speedi beet for flavour - works for me to feed multivit supplements etc but then mine have never been fussy types hehe :-)
