So we had training homework this weekend, and as new assistant trainer I am feeling the pressure:p:D

So far this evening, we have done spin to the left, spin to the right, beg, give paw to the corresponding hand (i.e. I hold out my left hand, I want his right paw, I hold out my right hand, I want his left paw) and play dead - all with hand signals alone as verbal commands seem to be confusing him at the moment:rolleyes: He can also do balancing treats on his back and head.

Has anyone got any other trick ideas please?

Everyone seems to love Abe's reading ability:D

Actually we just started with pictures. So banana, steak and ball for example.

Then we moved to words on a card.

We have words for objects that he can either fetch or touch when i hold the cards up and we have command cards, down, sit, circle, wave ect

Ohh, I love that idea! But can I teach it by Saturday... pressure!;) ETA I mean the reading idea :o

CT, we x-posted, not sure he could do turning on his hind legs, but I think he could do weaves :)

You would easily be able to do the pictures at least.

Just start with one and get him to target it (if i remember correctly you clicker train it will be super quick with that) after he is reliably targeting the picture add the verbal to it "banana" or whatever.

You could end up with 5-6 pictures by the weekend.

I print them off from google and put them inside plastic folder wallet things.

Beg (sit up on back legs, paws tucked up)
High five
Weave between legs (bit too close to doggy dancing for my liking :p)
Speak, if he doesn't know it already
And what I am currently trying to teach, which is to cover the nose with one or both paws. :o

My dogs best trick is DANCE!
He stands upright on his hind legs, holds his front paws as high as he can and jumps around like a loony thing.
I should get a video of it sometime.... :D

Here's some of the tricks I've taught mine over the years.

round (go round me)
through (go through my legs)
legs (weave through from front of my legs)
fly (weave through from back of my legs)
verse (walk backwards in a straight line)
wiggle (walk backwards around me)
high (stand on back legs)
both (beg)
feet (put both feet up on me)
ogle (start facing me and turn so facing away)
bounce (while on back feet bounce forward)
middle (between my legs)
eight (go anti-clockwise around object on floor)
roll (roll over)
move (move sideways from left to right)
dance (move sideways from right to left)
bend (bow)
face (put paw on nose)
oz (scatch at floor with front feet)
boogie (weave backward around my legs)
look (look over their shoulder behind them)
bang (lay still on their back)
cross (crossing their paws while in a down)
flat (lay on their side)
bucket (put ball in bucket)

Have started teaching him the difference between a book and a hat - he is getting there, although it is taxing his teeny tiny brain:rolleyes: Lots of good ideas on here, will have to work my way through the list!
