For the past few weeks mysti has been in a stable which she cant see other horses from and this has been worrying her like mad! She cant be left out as she jumps out if shes on her own and Honey gets really stiff, lame and unhappy if out 24/7.
Buut another livery was getting a new horse and it was going in the stable next door .. solving the problem.
Unfortunatly another horse on the main yard was put down on monday

Leaving a stable on the main yard free. Now mysti got colic v bad yesterday

and vet said its almost definatly the stress of being away from other horses. So its now begun a battle off the wills to who gets the stable. Now other liverys horse is partially blind and she doesnt want to move it round the back into my stable even though hes fine alone. And her new horse is too big. But have tried to explain to yard owner, colics life threatening where as being partially blind isnt but the point doesnt seem to have gone through and im now worried my mares gonna spend even longer alone and colic again

I just dont know what to do

Probably a stupid question, but would Honey move into Mysti's stable? Probably not...

But could it be worth a try?

How is she today?

No the stables only just big enough for her.

Not good, stressing herself out again

I think if the YM won't let you move to main block, or nobody will come round to give your mare some company, then you perhaps should be looking for somewhere where they are a bit more understanding.
That's a horrible situation if your mare is getting so stressed that it is bringing on colic.

can you not put honey next to her?

[/ QUOTE ]

Oh yeah forgot to mention the partially blind one is a shetland and mystis welsh a.
The stables are quiet small Honey wouldnt even be able to turn around
All the other horses are bigger than Hon so nobody would consider it

Could you explain slightly firmly with the YM that "Should Mysti not be allowed to move stables, she will be moving off the yard."

She will be losing on 2 liveries after all.

She doesn't have to know your mum won't budge

Or, if she turns around and says "Whatever!" Then, your mum needs a reciept for the cost of colic

Um with a choice of losing 4 liverys or 2 ..

Hes not horsey so he doesnt understand "colic"

i dont even want to look at the reciept DarcyLu

Not a very nice situation to be in. I have a loan horse at the moment that gets REALLY bad separation anxiety. We have to bring him in at exactly the same time as the other horses. It is a nightmare. Back to your situation... seems like an off the wall idea, but have you tried putting a mirror in her stable. Many horses respond really well to this if they get stressy being alone. I would have tried it with mine, but we ended up moving him to a stable next to a shetland who is in at the moment due to arthritis.
Good luck!
