tricky situation, what would you do? advice please long

for those of you who dont know, prince is awaiting nerve blocks in his right hand after the sacroliac nerve block was unnsucessfull, he was meant to have them yesterday but typicaly pulled that shoe off so couldnt have them. he got shod yesterday afternoon when vet was still down as he was doing teeth, he was still abit sleepy from being sedated for teeth but was awake enuf to keep pulling back when his right for was being rasped and what not. which is unlike him. farrier said weve been abit more brutal this time and taken the toes back more which him and vet agreed to do. (luckily i use a fantastic remedial farrier that my vets work with. ) so hel be abit foot sore, walked him to tie him up and said no hes very very sore, so spent another 20 mins putting nails lower and seating it out and farrier was happy said ring if he gets worse. took him and grace to the field and went down after turning all the others out and fed him and grace, he called to me like he does at tea time but he didnt move, strange i thought! he COULDNT move. the sedation had worn of and he wouldnt graze or eat. rang farrier who came back out and took the nails out the front of his shoes and seated it out more, both his toes are bruised alot. hes just to sensitive to be brutal with. i syringed some danilon into him and he immedietly walked off which was an improvment but today he wasnt much better. he keeps rocking back onto his heels to adjust how hes stood and doesnt really want to walk. farrier said hel improve in a few days, if he doesnt il have him back out but my situation is, hes lame behind and with him rocking back its putting strain down both his hind legs, hes in the field but i didnt know wether to bring him in on a nice thick bed, but that would mean bringing grace in and using someone elses stable to stable her, she pulls rugs down so not ideal. and prince doesnt really like being stabled he finds its stressfull. and i dont want him to make his hind lameness worse by standing in.
sorry its long, fruit and nut if you got through it, would really appreciate some advice. i was so upset to see him in so much discomfort, he looks just like a typical lami! hes just isnt having a great time at the mo and hasnt had 5 minutes rest.
 
Give him a couple of days & give him a sachet of bute/danilon. If he's not better by Friday morning get them out again. I used to have a horse who was footy for a few days after being shod, but always came sound in a few days.
 
hes been footy before but he actually looked cripled. il give him another danilon in the morn, iv been suringing it in coz hes not been eating very well since. and my piglet of a mare will steal it!
 
I'm not sure I understood that correctly, but if it were me...

- I would be quite cross with the farrier if they had purposely been "brutal" and made the horse so sore it couldn't walk and kept rocking back on its heels.

- I would have the horse on total box rest if it is in that much discomfort. If the hind-leg lameness is on-going the horse may stiffen up a bit but you are highly unlikely to make that condition worse. There is a far higher likelihood of making the foot problem worse and causing the horse distress leaving it out when it can't walk round comfortably.

- I'd consider the horse's history. Does it have any history of laminitis or other foot problems? Is it displaying other signs of being a lamititic? That would gauge whether i'd want the vet back immediately for the feet lameness or whether i'd box rest for a few days then get the vet if no improvement.

- Get the vet and farrier (new vet/new farrier as needed) to figure out and treat the feet lameness.

- When hopefully on top of the feet problems, start investigating the initial hind-leg lameness, subsequent back problems, etc.

he was lame on both fronts a while ago and has bar shoes on fronts now which solved the lamness but he has awfull feet. so they wanted the toes taken back more infront and his feet look like normal feet now but it was just done to quickly for him and has bruised them, any other horse would be footy but hes super sensitive which my farrier knows so i was abit cross with him for not saying anything. hes having nerve blocks next week but there wont be much point if hes lame infront so its just delaying it even more. hes never had lami, iv had him for 4 years and known him for 6. he raced before hand very briefly. hes 12 now.
if hes not improved by 2moro i will be ringing them again. iv got one of the best vets in the county so trust him entirley hes been a star these last six weeks so will be ringing him first thing if theres no improvment and my farrier will be straight back out. only problem with boxing him is he box walks and stresses. my vet will only work with my current farrier as hes the best remedial farrier around so was handy that they work together.
can he do damage to his pedal bone with him rocking back? im just about to pop down now to check on him and make sure hes comfortable with the danilon i gave him a couple of hours ago. its just been such an on going thing that i just want my horse back to normal and comfortable.

I don't think he can do any damage to the pedal bone rocking back, more that if you don't know what injury you are dealing with, he could be making it worse walking around when it is obviously not right. However, with that history, it just sounds like typical foot issues at this time of year. The farrier really shouldn't have done anything drastic now IMO, but it is hard to know what to do for the best with this sort of thing. Giving plenty of pain relief is really all you can do. The farrier hasn't added heel wedges has he?
 
no hes just got straight bars infront and lateral extensions behind. this is his second set of bar shoes. iv just been to check him and hes more comfortable with the danilon i syringed into him but his front feet are very hot across the toe which is where he said the bruising was. hel know for next time now not to take so much off and do it grandually. dont think they were expecting for it to bruise him so much and make him so sore. poor sod, if hes bad in the morning when danilon has wore off il speak to them and see what they suggest if the vet is happy to inject pain relief il have him do that to make him comfortable and last longer. vet bill is already at £500 just aswell top it up to £600 :S
