I think you're being INCREDIBLY kind to this woman and her naughty horse. It is entirely reasonable you set some ground rules though, that she rides behind and keeps up with you, not goes in front, slows you down and winds up your horses. That is simply not on.

Perhaps check she's not pumping this young horse full of cereals and sugar to make it so spooky and suggest they have a few riding lessons to improve confidence levels.

Restricting the number of times she comes out with you per week sounds perfectly reasonable to me.

Thank you for all the replies everyone, I now feel that I can say only a couple of times a week without being mean.

She is a funny girl in that she doesn't ask if it is ok to ride with us just sends texts saying she will be at the yard at 7am to ride with a question mark. We did try to explain when she looked round the yard that we are doing fittening work with ours and that is not really suitable for a youngster but she doesn't seem to have listened. When I said that we would be cantering twice a week she just said that it would be good for her horse to have a run.

I spoke to the girl I ride with tonight and we have decided even if she is around tomorrow morning that we are going to explain gently that we don't think she and her horse are ready to be cantering in a group but that we will go out for a walk on Thursday with her.

That sounds perfect and you and your friend sound like really nice people.

Can't believe she let her horse bite your horse's bum! When you're waiting to cross a road too, that's downright dangerous! She sounds a bit clueless but if you can mix up your fittening work on your own with the odd trundle with her you can hopefully start guiding her in the right direction I think you're very generous I'm a mad old crone who only goes out alone hehe!
