What are your views on this little tricky situation?

A friend broken up with her other half a couple of weeks ago and they are just sorting out who has what ect. A bit of a messy break up and basically she has walked away with nothing, but she is not that bothered just trying to hold her head up high and move on. Except for last year he bought her a horse, and now he is claming the horse is his (well saying it’s his daughters) as he paid for it and saying it was originally for his daughter. He referrers to it as his daughter’s horse, tho in the whole year apparently she has only seen her 3 times at the very most. My friend pays all livery and looks after it but the passport never got changed so is still in the original owner’s name.
Does she have a leg to stand on? She currently looking after the horse and still paying for it at this moment in time. But he has now threatened to sell it on. I feel so sorry for her, she is miles away from me, so I am unable to go and see her to give her a hug. So who owns the horse?
Anyone like to do a bit of horse hiding for her? I am sure she will appreciate it.

I am not a lawyer...

But I vaguely remember from oh legal training that, with regard to housing, if the non owning party can prove that they have significantly contributed then they do have a stake. I think she needs to speak to q lawyer ASAP.

Its a gift.

If she can prove that the daughter has never been to see the horse, care for the horse etc and that she is the sole carer then its pretty clear it is HER horse.

So he cant sell it as it belongs to her. Passport is NOT proof of ownership remember. Tell her to get legal advise and if poss, move the horse ASAP.

there was a big article in last weeks H&H magazine regarding proof of ownership

May be worth a read if you can get hold of it
