Tried the most fab pony today....

Pity! Its so annoying. We're looking at th emoment and it always seems the ponies that really fit the bill are 11hh.

I wish we could go back to little ponies they are so much fun! But the wretched child insists on growing like a weed.
The right one is out there just keep looking (however hard and time consuming it is). Are you looking for you or the girls?

I know, who gives them permission to do that?! I had to let my daughter's stirrups down two holes the other day, she seems to have had a sudden growth spurt. At least her pony will be there for her little sister. After that I think we'll just have to retire her.

LOL I was looking for a 15.2 (ish) horse and ended up with a 14.1 fun pony and he is brill. So what that he's small...who says that size matters??!! :D

Asked all the questions before we went, but he was a smallish 14.2hh not a large one. You would not believe the variation in that height bracket! Some we have looked at have been huge unfortunately he was just a bit small all over but he was a cracking pony.

Didn't you find out how big it was before going to look ??

Different horses and ponies ride smaller or bigger depending on their conformation. A 14.2hh could have a high wither and be narrow with a not very deep barrell and therefore be too small for a leggy child, whereas a deeper, wider pony of the same height with a lower wither might be perfect sizewise. Also you have to take into account whether the 14.2hh measurement has come from just putting the measuring stick on it at home (often still with shoes on and on an unlevel surface), or whether it has been professionally measured whilst let down and shoeless.

When you have a rapidly growing child who falls in love with their pony and doesn't want to sell and buy another one every year or so, then size does matter as you want to make sure that the partnership will last a reasonable time!

Thankyou TGM you explained our dilemma exactly! Some of the 14.2hh ponies we have seen are bigger than some of the 15hh/15.2's ones. This pony and my daughter clicked perfectly but she would have grown out of him very quickly and that wouldn't have been fair to either of them.

When we bought our current pony between the first time we tried him and him arriving home (about 3\4 weeks in total) my daughter grew nearly an inch. We measured her!
Its a delicate balance between buying big enough to last and but not over horsing.
