Can anyone recommend a pair of trimmers that would be strong enough to clip a horse's face? Horse is only a Thoroughbred so the hair isn't too coarse.

Have come accross a pair of Lister Legato trimmers second hand; has anyone got any experience of these?

I used a pair of lister Legato at the weekend (they were brand new) and I thought they were naff. I was using them to straighten up some body lines and they couldn't even cope with fine poofy fur.

My horse has pretty dense fur though, even though on the flanks it is really fluffy. I hadn't got a chance of trimming his beard :/

You may have better luck with very fine TB fur though.

Buy normal clippers that would do the entire clip. The 'Trimmers' that are sold allegedly to trim horses faces & feathers never have sufficient power. Trimmers for humans are not really suitable |& rarely cope with animal hair.

Livery Element. Mine are starting to die now (battery not charging very well, fin if plugged in) after about 5 years of frequent, leg and face trimming and taking the occasional strip off their necks if they're very sweaty before their proper clip. I've used and abused them well. They'd be fine for what you want.

I have Heineger Xplorer clippers for main clips but use Whal Classic Trimmers to do faces, tidy lines, heels etc. They are powerful enough to be used for hogging and are cordless rechargeable and small enough to pop in my pocket rather than take the whole box outside if just doing quick whiskers off.

I bought some dog/pet clippers from Aldi for about £10 they do all the beards and ears on my natives and are really quiet, the only noise they make is a small 'hum'.

I use Liveryman Elements, I find them much easier to negotiate round the fiddly bits than my normal clippers and they are definitely man enough for the job as I have successfully used them to do a chaser clip on a clipper shy horse.
