Just had my shetlands feet trimmed, can I take her straight out ? Want to take her out for a run with me but forgot to ask the farrier if she could work straight away. When I shoe my horse I usually leave her for a day, does the same apply for trimming?

He also gave me the news that she had definatley had laminitis before as the white line had seperated. I checked for rings at the front of the hoof but not white line seperation. I also asked the previous owners who denied she had ever had it. Anyway, not the end of the world as I chose not to vet her. She doesn't have it now, so a case of being careful and plenty of exercise. Will also invest in a grazing muzzle I think.

Yup, get the mini moving. Let me get this straight... You are going for a run and leading the mini out with you.... Cutest thing ever!

Agreed. We're not talking to you anymore until you provide pics of this wonder! Perhaps I could convince OH that I need a mini to motivate me to go out running more? ;)

Yes, in the'olden days' before mobile forges we used to ride to the farrier, have the horse shod and ride home again. In our case that was about 10 miles.

I do like your idea of running partner!

I will get some pics done, but it won't be today as would not be able to convince my OH to come and take pics (that would involve exercise for him:eek:).

It is a good motivation, as I used to run but stopped a couple of years ago and could never quite get back into it. So this way we are building our fitness up together and I kill two birds with one stone!! Everyone should have a mini as a running partner!!

I actually wanted to sign up to a 10k run thats coming up and take her with me, but have chickened out as not sure what everyone else would make of it!!!

I used to take my 15hh jogging, but a mini sounds amazing!
Like I need more excuses to look for one :P x and yup feet should be fine

Great way to exercize a mini. :) If he is fine round the yard etc. he will probably be fine but keep an eye. I'm sure you're prepared to cut your run short if needs be.

I'm no expert but a horse shod or trimmed should be fine to carry on as normal straight away.
As in straight after!

If not there us something wrong with your horse or the farrier/ trimmed has done something wrong or taken off too much hoof etc.

This is true but the pony has signs of previous laminitis in the past and has stretched white line now. Even taking very slightly too much off could make a change in comfort for a few days.

Also trotting on the road might cause soreness with compromised hooves. A mini is going to have to trot while you are running op, just be a little careful with the concussive effects and in case he isn't fit.
