No no crack. This horse has been barefoot for three years and had a trim over a week ago and has been horrendously lame ever since (laminitus). He has also never been good on stoney ground.
Hiya
Oh my god that is a lot of bute for him still to be lame! Has your vet/"bare foot trimmer" suggested anything else you can do to make the poor chap a bit more comfortable?
i think the feet look like nice strong feet maybe a liitle short, i agree that he should not still be lame on 2 bute a day. i would be calling vet out if he was mine. can you talk her it getting the vet out to look? did she actually get the vet out last week or are the bute an over the phone prescribion (sp)
Was originally an over the phone prescription. I had the dentist to georige on friday and had the vet to sedate him. She asked the vet to look at him then and she advised to up the bute to 2 a day (she had eventually put him on one bute a day after telling me she didnt want to) and keep him in, reduce bute as he improved. Also put the hoof testers on him and he did not react. Advised my friend that if there was not a significant improvement in the next week she should have him xrayed. Friend thinks this is totally unnecessary.
Trimmer has also phoned and said that he had stretched his laminae and that she has clearly over done it and will pay any vets bills.
He doesn't have ringbone developing on nearside pastern does he? Or it is just the photo?
Offside hoof looks like it has been trimmed fine to me, but the nearside hoof looks unbalanced. He does look like he has very good strong feet and should be an ideal candidate for being barefoot; but for some reason he isn't......odd.
The underneath of the hoof; well I can't see it clearly enough to be honest. Has the sole dropped a little on the inside of this hoof? The laminae do look a little stretched to me, but to be honest they don't look that bad. Not bad enough to have caused this problem for 3 years
.
Personally if he was my horse, I would be having x-rays not only of his feet but also of his pasterns.
if the trimmer is saying they will pay vet bill they must know they haven't trimmed correctly so why bother to use them, sorry but i think you friend needs a wake up call
Yeah completely agree the trimmer has completely messed up and obviously now worrid about word getting out about the standard of her work!!! May be your friend will get a professional person in such as a qualified farrier now!!! However some people never listen or learn!!! This is why farriers do four years and three months on all aspects of the equine limb in order to be able practice farriery!!!!!!
