Trotting on roads

Yes I do. If I didn't I wouldn't be able to keep my horses fit in the winter as I can only do road work.
We trot on the roads at work as well, especially the hunters.

Yes, I have done in the past to get out of the way of things or to move more quickly along busy roads. Daisy has just been retired though with unexplainable lameness in all four legs at the age of 12 so Lil won't be trotting on roads unless I can help it. We'll never know what caused Daisy's problems but I'll be dong everything I can to reduce wear and tear on Lil's legs.

Only very occasionally and never downhill. Cantering on the roads actually causes less concussion than trotting but i dont do that at all.

Hunting and Eventing yards that I've worked at in the past all do it, otherwise you'd never be able to keep the stamina/fitness up in the horses unless you are lucky enough to be located by lots of off road riding!!

Never did any of them any harm, also rode at a trekking centre once who canter and do loads of trot on hard tracks or road, all the ponies/horses were well into their teens with no ill effects!

I do it sensibly, even with my laminitic. Back in the day, I was taught that lots of trotting on the roads was the best way to harden hunters' tendons though I am not entirely convinced about that...just don't hammer them for miles.

I don't do it now as my girl is only just sound(hoping it will last) so I will not risk damaging that rotated pedal bone further, wish we could do it sometimes as she is full of herself but I feel with her specific problem its too risky(vet advised against it also).
With a normal footed horse I think a little trotting on roads is fine
