I am thinking about getting a lightweight hat for the summer and am quite taken by this one http://www.airowear.co.uk/hat_product_info.php?id=78

But I have no experience of this type of riding hat (I usually ride in a traditional hat) so was just wondering what everyone else thought of this type of hat and whether they are any good? I seem to remember they were listed in the Mark Davies safety survey but can't remember how well they were rated.

I think the one I was looking at was £80 altho the more basic ones are cheaper

You can get a Troxel from Peformance Equestrian for under £40.00, most endurance riders use them or something similar as they are lightweight, comfortable, conform to latest safety standards and are well ventilated. I bought a new one a year ago and I love it - no more sweaty hair

I've used them for the last ten years, v. comfortable and light for summer, sweaty endurance competitions etc. I also have a velvet Grand Prix conventional style riding hat by them - totally recommended. I have the ventilated Champion skull as well, but the Troxel is cooler to wear.

Really like that one. I've been wearing a lightweight Champion for years and it needs to be replaced and I'm thinking of a Troxel. They come out of safety tests very well.
