I'm actually happy enough with my old vets really, as long as I can see the correct one. This seems to be getting a little more difficult. I can almost guarentee if i need to go for something not pre arranged I will see someone else who won't fix the problem and I'll be back the following week to see the proper one- costing twice as much as it could have done!
They have, as most seem to have been sold to one of the big companies and prices have risen a lot. Mr P also (funny about vets at the best of times) really dislikes the guy I like! Not helped by some idiot at the pubs horror stories about how he failed to treat their dog and went on for years sick, until they went else where and he was fine within days apparently.
So, I had called around a few and nearly all are corporate. Found one that needed to see our previous records before staying they would accept us- fine but very awkward if they said no!

Bert is due his first booster and I didn't do puppy jabs myself so he has no record! so I came across a really nice little place. Family owned, small team of vets and nurses. Friendly helpful receptionist when i phoned to sound them out.
So I'm giving them a try this afternoon 🤞 They don't do their own out of hours but I'm unable to find one that does, The receptionist also, instead of just say"no we don't" as every other practice has explained that if an animal was sick enought to need emergency out of hours than a big hospital with all the kit and 24hr staff was really the best place to be anyway, put like that It sounds better 🤣

Poor boy is fast asleep no idea what's in store for him. I think he may struggle a bit as he is loads better but still a nervous type, Its also his longest car trip ever- he used to get so sick and stressed I've never risked going too far, He is now very happy to come in the car, hasn't been sick in ages and travel's nicely so hopefully a longer trip will be fine now.
He then has to come horse food shopping to Mole Valley..... pretty sure they will have something nice to make him feel better!

I hope the vets work out. I left a practice I'd been using for over 30 years when they were bought out and like you I found I could never see the vet I wanted to. The vets I'm with now are independent and do their own ooh, they have a hospital with staff 247 and they are great with the dogs. I like the fact that when we go in they spend a few minutes just saying hello to the dog and making a fuss of them rather than just dive in and start prodding and poking. The receptionists often come and say hello while we're waiting, all makes for a fun experience for the dog. If you tell them Bert is nervous they will hopefully spend a bit of time just reassuring him.

That sounds good! I have actually just emailed to ask about parking as its not an area i know and i didnt really want to end up walking though the center of town with him. They already replied saying there should be parking right outside but that there is a Gym across the road with lots of parking and that if he was nervous they were happy to come outside and meet/see him first which was really nice. I'm sure that won't be needed as he has no reason to be scared inside if people are nice! He isn't nervous of people. It was walking down busy pavements and traffic flying past that would worry him.

If the breeder has forgotten to give you his vaccination record, could you give them a ring and ask them to forward it to you and in the meantime could they Email a copy to you?
Ah no sorry i mean he has no records to be transferred over from my vets. I have a card certificate thing they have me which has his puppy course dates stamped in.

Im glad you found a smaller one, corporate ones just don't have the same care and empathy i don't think. I am lucky with my vets it is a small practice and a year into owning BB I switched him to that practice too. Previously had the dogs there.
The other horse vets in the town, made too many wrong decisions for my liking so I registered him there instead.
Been with the vet now for 29 years. Trust them implicitly but they are fussy about who they register now.

Wow, 29 years shows they are doing something right. I don’t think these ones do horses but I really like my horse vet anyway so not worried about that so much. It’s taken me ages of pondering this, not really ready to jump ship but hopefully it will be the right decision and if not all I’ve done is one vaccination, not like starting some big investigation and finding it was the wrong move!

Slightly blown away. Easy to get to and park. It was like Bert was some kind of minor celebrity they had been waiting for! Bothe the vet and receptionist saw he was a bit 😬 and spent time just making friends and being nice to him. Soon had him eating treats out of their hands and wagging
They took all his details but in depth like what his personality was like, what he ate where we lived and how he was kept. Gave him a good check over and a sparkling bill of health.

They then charged me all of £45 (surely that’s seriously cheap?!)

We then had to go buy horse food and there was no shady parking place so in he came.
The first time he has ever been in a shop but one he got over the fact that the trolley was coming with us he was really good, chose a treat and home we went 😂

All in all very successful and I think I am going to switch them all. CC3FC6A5-99A4-4E1B-8BAA-C8C3DEB79411.jpeg

Sounds like my lovely vets. They no longer do ooh but are wonderful for everything else and cheaper than most in the area. I've been with them about 15 years and my daughter uses them as it's worth a 30 to 40 minute journey as they're so nice and cheaper than her local ones.

As I was driving over I was wondering if it was a bit further than I'd have liked really (thinking with a sick animal/emergency) but, yes I think it will be worth it.

As the vet pointed out it makes her job a lot easier if all her customers think of it as a fun place to go.
Cecil does have his jab already booked at the old ones next week so won't cancel that as its been booked ages, I'm interested to see what his costs!

We have registered with a new local vet. We couldn't get in at their other practice and it was a little to far for emergencies. When we heard they were opening a practice near us we signed up straight away!! Parsons has been in 3 times. 1 for sore shoulder £45, 1 for spay £250 and again for pulling something this week £ 63 ( through examine and meds). Our other vets were just getting worse. Just really wanted thr money.

What a lovely sounding Practice. How all vets should be. Bert is gorgeous 😍

The Practice I’ve been with for the past 20 years (for farm and companion) were taken over a few years back and I was worried about the change especially as one of my favourite vets left shortly after. The prices do seem to have shot up (but think that’s the same everywhere) but I can still almost always get to see the other vet I like and trust so I’m happy enough. There is an independent vet practice a bit further away that has an excellent reputation and a waiting list and I’ll consider getting my name on their list in future if my current vet leaves, but the extra mileage would worry me in an emergency. My own vets are already 15 miles on small country roads and the independent vets are 30 miles away.
