We've found a lump on Herman. Very small, on his side. Easy to move about under the skin and he isn't bothered in the slightest by us touching it.

Actually, he's bothered by nothing in the world at the moment, he's been on 2 huge walks this weekend and has slept for much of the afternoon.

Anyway. I am panicking he has cancer - I read somewhere that Weims are apparently more susceptile(?) ...on the internet, so it must be true - likely, would you think? I know noone can answer that. It's on his ribs.

Vets in the morning or would you wait and see?

I would call the vet, better to be on the safe side adn if you are panicking it will settle your nerves to get an answer. Fingers crossed its nothing :)

What you describe, at his age and with his breeding (although I've not read up on weims but I believe health conditions are similar to that of the vizsla from previous research) it sounds to me likely to be a histiocytoma- a benign and harmless tumour, some even disappear on their own. Get him booked in to the vet to have it checked and put your mind at rest. My last 2 vizzies had them at around his age, both started to worry at them after a month or so and had them removed under GA...they never returned.

Have no idea re weims, however we had a cocker that had 'moveable' lumps appear, one on his head and another on his bum.

They were totally harmless and removed by the vet.

Would get it checked by the vet as others have said though to be on the safe side.

Sure it will be fine x

If it's quite easy to move around and 'squidgy' in texture, its most likely to be a lipoma, a fatty deposit. Very common in lots of breeds and totally benign!! Don't worry but do get it checked out, depending on age etc they can still be removed, my lab x had one removed from the top of her foreleg/chest. They can occur all over. My parents cocker has one on his side, but he's an older dog with other problems so not having it removed.

So please don't panic...

Don't panic - go to vet a next opportunity to ge them to check. St Sweep (my old cocker) has loads of lumps and bumps on him - all fatty tissue and checked regularly. As he is older they were reluctant to remove them until they were either huge or causing a problem - they removed one on his chest about a year ago that wieghed nearly a pound and another large one from his side at the same time but he still has loads of smaller ones left.:) Doesn't stop him being naughty, swimming, eating disgusting dead things.......:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Ditto competition diva. I have had dogs with movable fatty lumps that have caused no problems, however just to put your mind at rest I would get it checked out.

Thank you everyone, a fatty lump (or what Vizslak said) never even occurred to me, I just decided it was going to be cancer last night. AND on our walk this morning I realised we spent most of Sunday morning tramping over the moors - although surely if it was a tick/similar I'd see it?

Our vets have an sit and wait type open surgery on a morning and in the evening so in a minute I'm going to annoy him hugely and rouse him from his post-run slumber and take him down to the vets.

You watch, I'm going to come back and post that it's something completely obvious and stupid. Still a bit nervous though.

You would see a tick yea, it could just be a spot or little lump caused by a thorn or similar though! Go put your mind at rest, I'm sure it will not be cancer and something much more simple and harmless. I didn't say a fatty lump because in my experience it's been older dogs that get them but actually your description would fit that too so I guess thats quite possible.

Good news!

After a minor panic when I couldn't find the bloody thing and thought I'd taken him down there for nothing, the vet felt it, prodded it and said as he wasn't bothered by it and it didn't hurt him to just leave it and keep an eye on it. She said if it gets bigger/changes colour/starts to bother him to take him back and they'd remove it. Thinks it's just a fatty lump *cookies to all AADers*

So I had him microchipped while he was there as I was highly embarrassed about him not being done. He cried when he was done (just who is wimpiest, me or the dog?) and because I felt so guilty afterwards he now has a big rawhide braid thing which he's now jumping on and barking at.

I've taken dogs to the vets with lumps and bumps which miraculously disappear, I think vets just humour me sometimes. Glad it is nothing serious, fancy being so cruel to the poor lad , glad you made amends with a present.:)

Good news - it's as well to get these things looked at if only to put your mind at rest.
Hooray for Herman - now let the poor boy get back to sliding along the floor! :D

Mollichop, were you at the vets? *blushes* He managed to slide himself under the benches and get stuck. Everyone was sat there with a look of horror that I'd let my dog do something so stupid and all I could do was try not to laugh. Especially when he then tried to stand up.
