Am just posting this really in the hope that there are some other people out there in forum land who are as tired as me!

Does this situation sound familiar to anyone? More importantly do you have any tips on how to do it!

I have a wonderful horse that I love to pieces, sure he is never going to win Badminton or Hickstead but I think he is fab anyway. I keep him on DIY livery, ride most days and am just getting back into competing again (fingers crossed) after 18 months off through injury. I also work all the hours god sends in a job which is blooming hard work, and have over two hours of commuting each day. On top of this I also have other interests outside riding and do love trying to have a normal life outside horses and try and fit in going out with friends, running and the gym if I am feeling good, and for some unknown reason have started to feel like I should do some volunteering or something (not sure where that came from).

And oh yes on top of all that I have a wonderful boyfriend that I wouldn't mind seeing occasionally, is it possible to have horses and a normal life, or is that too optimistic?

Thoughts please!

Blimey no wonder you are knackered lol. I am feeling a bit flat and tired but I am not quite as busy as you. Also trying to get back competing on one of my mares, DIY, Full time job, OH and 2 dogs lol and I certainly dont go looking for anything else. I am lucky in that my non horsey friends come up to the yard to visit me and with the mares living out we do manage a pub meal now and again. Also lucky in that the horsey bug bit OH and he took over the other mare so I do get to see him

I think at the end of the day if you are enjoying your horse then it makes it all worth it - well thats what keeps me going. When I first met my OH he said 'what hobbies do you have' now he tells everyone - we own horses - its not a hobby or a sport - its a lifestyle lol.

No wonder you are tired. Can you try and combine some of those things ie have a horsey day out with friends to combine a competition with a social day. Even non horsey friends like a beer tent and trade stands. Don't consider voluntary work every week / month but maybe man a soup stand at Xmas or something.

I couldn't do those hours at work, commute and do a horse fulltime. Does he have to be ridden so frequently ? Arrange for a friend to share chores so that each of you can have a horse free day at the weekend.

I think a lot of us are suffering from TATT syndrome though

Get a sharer!!!

I have a normal job, work 3 nights a week in a pub, am doing a masters part time, and still manage to ride 3 times a week, see the boyfriend (which is a shame LOL) and have a life.....

Know the feeling!! I've two, both of whom are out of work lame at the moment, just started dating (previous relationship went wrong due to him HATING horses and therefore us never seeing each other), work stupid hours and try to have a social life - which also involves going home to kent from Surrey a lot!!!

Its very tiring and at the moment I wonder if its all worth it - but I know it is, and like others here my non-horsey friends will happily come up to the yard and see me, and I try to have 'horsey weekends' and 'non horsey weekends' where i do the jobs but don't spend all day there.

We do it because we love it - but it is a lifestyle choice!!!

I do horsey (although he is competition livery and gets ridden the 3/4 days i cant) - he is young and was green when i got him so i see this essential for his development. I normally have two lessons a week and try to ride 1-2 times more.

I go to the gym 3 times a week, my slimming class and also am doing a part time degree (dissertation this summer break).

I also work 8-5 mon to fri and have 2 hours commute each day on top of working hours (and sometimes have to work away)! I love it but sometimes just have too much to do, even looks worse when typed!
