We will be getting a large ex racer next Thursday and I am trying to find him a bed online that will be big enough for him, supportive, easy to clean and preferably thick enough to keep him well off the floor. He is 28" at the shoulder and 32" from neck to base of tail. He also likes to sprawl flat out apparently so I need to allow for a long neck and head in addition. Any recommendations would be much appreciated as I am beginning to lose the will to live navigating inches and centimetres, contradictory reviews and choices of fillings and covers!

I had several big greyhound boys - they are my favourite sort of greyhound - and to be honest I either gave them a couple of duvets on the floor (stacked up like princess and the pea!) or they slept on the sofa (which I realise may not be an option for you)

I’ve just had a massive nostalgia rush for my lovely greyhound boys…. sigh…. ❤️❤️❤️

Both sofas are already occupied... by the lurcher girls. OH and I have an armchair each and the new boy will have a bed in a newly cleared space in the living room.

Just move your bed downstairs and give him that. Apparently sleeping on the floor is good for our backs......;):D

Photos please! I drive past a greyhound rescue on the way to a local competition venue and see them out walking the dogs - I really want one too!

Tuffies it is. We can use lots of duvets and blankets while we wait for it to be delivered. I am beginning to be slightly excited! Thank you all for your help. x
Tuffies last forever, a mattress will keep its shape with plenty of room to stretch/hang out. I also have HiK9

4 Tuffies here ....... 2 nests and 2 mattresses, and various covers. Our Jrt loves the tunnel cover, which is like a sleeping bag, she gets herself snuggled up in it when she goes to bed. She also likes the nest when she wants to sit up and rest her head on the side of it.

Mine has finally started using her snoozer cave bed after three years of it being a trip hazard in my bedroom. She too loves the sofa but does have a folded duvet in the lounge also. I like the K9 raised beds. Wonder if they do one big enough.

Oh exciting you are giving a home to an ex-racer!

If he's anything like Ivy the bed size will be irrelevant because the best bit is spilling out of it... 😂 (Earthbound bed, just duvet, and duvet on top of a Pecute foam crate mattress.

I can beat that! He got himself so tired he couldnt even make it into bed! He didnt even lay down, just dropped with a big thud.

For cheaper alternatives, I know quite a few greyhounds who love the Aldi donut beds. Problem is you have to wait for them to come back into stock!

We have umpteen unused duvets that will eventually be his upstairs bed, providing he takes to the stairs. He has never been in a house before! We had them carpeted last week as our old girl was beginning to find them tricky and the thought of a greyhound coming to grief while learning how to negociate them was a bit scary.

Second this - my two (one of which is huge) love their doughnut beds. They are just cheap ones from online rather than Aldi, but they love them -the fluffier and squashier the better. They also squash into the washing machine whole and dry quite quickly.
