iv recently got a lovely 14.3hh lightweight piebald cob on loan (owner going to uni in september) the yard she is at is pure dressage! im the only one with a GP saddle, there is one outdoor arena with 2 jumps which have to be filled in with sand when i use them (not very often as iv only had her a month or so, but more in the future!) she has done dressage for years, only jumping up to about 2ft for fun and not very often with her owner, when i went to try her i explained how id done pure showjumping at riding school up to 3ft and would like to continue that. she said yes thats fine, except you might need to remind her a bit and we only have 2 falling down jumps. As iv wanted my own horse/loan for as long as i can remember i still wanted to have her, as i also fancied improving my dressage skills which was quite shocking.
the first few weeks i just did flatowork to get used to her, she is a fairly straightforward ride except she can take a mick quite a lot, as well as sometimes giving a squeal and a buck going into canter out of pure excitment, but then her owner said why dont you try jumping her today, i said yes and we went to set up the two jumps which took a while as they needed to be filled in with sand and the poles where thin at one end and fat at the other, the jump cups where rusty etc. she asked me what jumps i had at the riding school, we had a full BSJA set, puissance wall as well as lots of fillers etc. anyway back to the point, i jumped her and she just flew it! i felt how happy she was to be jumping again and really picks her feet up i only kept the jumps low that day but i cant wait to try her over higher, she has cleared 4ft with owner when she took her to a friends yard and they had a chase me charlie (she was too nervous to go any higher)
so to the point a big thankyou and lots of sweets for getting this far. any tips??? there is a local showground down the road which i can get a lift to but the ground is like a rock at the moment
also steward at RC and get paid in schooling vouchers, but id be very lucky if i could bag a lift all the way there. been speaking to other people on the yard and they have been saying well you could always take her to this showground and this showground, hope that means they are offering me a lift!!
