Today we built a chicken house that leans to the back of the stables. Put horses away just now and they were both a bit freaked out by chicken noises behind them. Harry was particularly scared and threatened to jump over stable door! I have shut the top door for a while, don't know what to do really, will check on him in a minute. Don't know if I should leave the door shut tonight? What a worry, has anyone else had a horse that has come over the door?

yeap my 3 year old jumped the stable door when he was 6 months old . it was a shocking sight hes only 13.2hh now so he was olny little bless him.

Well the thing is, he has been on the yard all day, in and out of his stable as and when he wanted to with the chickens there. Don't know what has got into him. Might leave his door open so he can come and go at will. Thing is, he is 15.2hh and it would be a hell of a squeeze for him to fit through!

Maybe do that then as if he's looking like he might come over it, chances are he will! I have a 12.2 who jumps from one stable to another in my barn and the partitions are about 4' high. He only does it when he is frightened (something knocking on the wall will cause him to go over) or most recently when he had run out of hay and thought he would eat the other pony's as well. He's done it 3 times now, always a shock to come down and find two ponios in the one stable! His companion never looks too chuffed either.

If he's calmer with the door closed then go for it but if the chickens are behind him would it panick him? they're all different I guess!

we had a cob that jumped out the temp stables at pony camp, not cos he was frightened but cos he wanted the grass!! They are all different so wouldnt like to say what yours would do, if worried leave the door open

My horse tried to jump over the door once and ended up stuck on top of it. He had to be pulled over to the other side. Not pleasant. He has a weaving grill now - He doesn't weave but it would hopefully stop him jumping out. I also have the insert piece if he looks particularly crazy!

i had a livery who had a 14.2 that jumped out most nights. she bought a weaving grill and it worked a treat

My old mare used to jump out of her stable just for the fun of it. We got a weaving grill (full one w/o neck space) and this did the job. Although a couple of times she reared up and got her fetlock caught on the top of the grill and managed to bring it back down with her, bending the metal to a 90 degree angle. Flipping pony. She got moved into an indoor stable block then.
