I need to put a bit more weight on whippet pup (she hoolies round the garden and burns it off!).

I think I have read that this requires an increase in muscle meat and reduced bone content?

Have I got this right and if so, any suggestions on type of meat to use? I don't really want to use pork, for fear of worm problems if I'm not freezing it enough.

Any advice, much appreciated!

Yep, try more muscle meat. Also oily fish, eggs etc. And tripe, wonderful, wonderful tripe!
(Had to decant some into smaller containers yesterday, still trying to get the smell out of my nose...)

Oh, I hadn't realised that tripe was a weight putter oner, I'd have assumed the opposite! Will give her green tripe tomorrow (but, dear lord, the smell...)!

Thanks!

I would up the FATTY meat content, so things like breast of lamb. Oily fish as well. Tripe is good so long as you can acquire the green variety.....haven't seen such great results with the washed/bleached variety myself.

Also, try adding coconut oil to the diet...that helped one of mine, albeit I started feeding it for other reasons and then discovered that weight gain was a side effect. Need to introduce it slowly otherwise you risk the canine equivalent of Delhi Belly! :D

At the risk of sounding extremely dim, what are magic meatloaf and satin balls??? :D

Selection of recipes here:

And this recipe for Satin balls is very simple...my 2 love them! :D

4 large bags mince
3 large bags of oats
10 eggs inc shell
2 tins black treacle
cheese diced

Mix up all ingredients in a washing up bowl until a nice sticky mess, then roll into balls around golf ball size (for a Dane) there you go, believe me if I can make them anyone can!

CC...??!!??

OP I forgot to mention the wonders I have found with clabbered milk, Teal dropped a lot of weight with lungworm but clabbered milk everyday for a fortnight and hes now a bit podge :)

I am now giving to mine once a week.
From my other post:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have recently discovered Clabbered milk for my boys, they get about half a pint a week brilliant stuff. Just keeps them nicely covered.

Get a 2-4pint whole milk (raw is better if you can get it). Take about a cups worth out for your own use.
Keep it in warm place, shake 2-3 times a day. I dont have central heating so it took about a week to go. But my friend left hers by the aga and it was done in 48hrs. When its thick and yoghurt like with a cheesy smell its ready. Helped Teal when he lost some weight due to lungworm. He came up lovely on it.

My old lab used to have vitalin gold for weight gain as well, mixed with goats milk/ sardines in tommy sauce. But I would mix with with clabbered milk now.
