Trying to tay British!

So - I have a short list and all bar one are based in the Uk. And need some advice. Went to Hartpury on Saturday to see Garuda K (gorgeous) but now also tempted with showmaker.The other UK is Nibley Union Jack.
The non-uk one is Garabaldi.
The mare in question is Beg WB, its a hobby so i want something rideable! Shes got a great temp, moves ok and is very willing.
I know the whole process is going to cost a bomb so am willing to pay that bit more for a really super stallion - just baffled by choice.
I would insert pic (not very good one!) but don't know how!

Please help - any advice on forum or PM'd would be fantastic.

I too think Garuda K is just awesome and have fallen in love with him form some of the pics form teh show last night. Showmaker is also stunning and Volatis on here has a cracking yearling by him.

Have you thought about Millenium?? I know this boy very well as a friend of mine is his groom/stud season jockey and he is just AWESOME! And he just genuinely teakes your breathe away when you see him in action as he always has soo much fun....his owner just adores him and whenever she rides him you can spot the grin from a mile away...plus he is a real teddy bear in the stable with his favouritest treat being bananas...he would literally do ANYTHING for a banana!! His oldest stock are only rising 2 yr olds as he only retired to stud at the end of his competition career at 18 but they are all stunning with fab temps and I believe Hobgoblins have a couple now that are being kept entire as stallion prospects. He himself is fully graded and I believe he was also performance tested prior to moving to the UK years ago.

Is itr specifically dressage stallions you are looking for?
 
well most serious british breeders seem to rate Showmaker too, I know big successful studs such as Catherston and Woodlander are using him, and I have to say my colt by him is a cracker and I ma very tempted to breed the mare back. And his temperament is superb too, he is a total gentleman in his box and you could see for yourself on Saturday how ridable he is.

Garuda K is a very different stamp but another I love, very elegant, and certainly had cracking foals at the Futurity last year.

anything else specific about your mare you want to focus on?
 
Well - shes lovely - can be really wooden (stiff neck) - but its something she inheritated from original owner. Jumps well too not that i am that concerned about breeding a jumper. i liked both garuda and showmaker because of their looseness whicj i wanted to maintain - aaah its so hard!
 
well between those two stallions, Garuda will add lightness and refinement. I would say Showmaker will give you a larger framed horse so a lot will depend on what stamp you want from your mare. Both would add length of leg I would say
 
personally Garuda has a bit too much flash and not enough substance for me- his back end does not seem to match the front in terms of strength, power or tempo. especially apparent in extensions.

Showmaker is much more the complete athlete- lovely frame, good round topline and enough 'bounce' in the hindlegs to match the flashy front.
 
Millitiger thats interesting you say that about Garuda K. I didn't get to the stallion show in the end (nightmare day at home), and I wanted to see him, a lot as I liked him so much last time I saw him.
I have looked through the photos though, and the point about the hindleg stood out for me too (although that of course, is just from a photo).
 
Im confused - are we promoting British Bred or British based stallions? If British Bred are they from British parents or are they actually foreign with british passports at best.

I have nothing against any of the above I just cannot see how using foreign bloodlines is actually british bred. For me it is a stallion born in the UK, by sires and dams with UK passports.
 
Personally for me British Bred is born in the UK....at the end of the day we are constantly looking to improve our horses and if in order to do so we must look further afield onto the continent or elsewhere, then so be it.....in my opinion it boils down to whether the stallion suits the mare...irrespective of where he comes from. Thus if someone in the UK chooses to breed their mare to a foreign stallion, the resulting horse will only serve to benefit British Breeding as it will potentially be adding new 'blood' so to speak into the mix, widening the gene pool.
 
We have a super filly out of Showmaker, born last May, the temprament is out of this world, and the paces are just to die for, I would choose him again and again, we feel we have something very special from him. I also feel as an every day rider that I would actually be able to deal with the horse when it gets older, also the mare must take some credit she is a bwb also with a super temprament and movement.
