Tucked up?

I've had my new boy since March and he seems to constantly look slightly tucked up. He did at the vetting and the vet didn't comment on it so I assumed it was nothing to worry about. He's just turned 6 and is TB x sec D. He's not a fussy eater AT ALL and shows no signs of colic or discomfort in his tummy.

Are some horses just naturally "slimmer" around that area?

My new boy looks tucked up, I am erring in the side of hind gut issues, he also stands with his hinds tucked under him

Thanks zangersheide. My boy doesn't stand with his legs tucked under him and I have no other reason to suspect there's anything wrong. He is quite long in the back which was why i initially didn't think much of it as I figured his rib cage maybe just wasn't quite long enough hence the "gap" at the back.

Maybe he's just made that way, in conformation terms.
The old fashioned descriptor is 'herring-gutted'

Thanks Shilasdair!!! I've googled that and it's sort of reassuring that it is a recognised conformational "fault". A couple of sites say that herring gutted horses are difficult to keep condition on...that's about right for my boy! It also mentions the saddle slipping back but that doesn't seem to be an issue.

He's in the right place - my dogs are greyhounds and are similarly herring gutted
