Tuffa Suffolks - OK to ride in?

I need winter boots, and have finally come to terms with the fact that Grasmeres do not fit me (calves are now slim enough to fit widthways, but the boots come up over my knee). I like the look of the Tuffa Suffolks, but the sole looks quite chunky -are they OK to ride in?

The suffolks have a very chunky sole and are quite broad in the foot - not too good unless you have wide and/or safety stirrups. Tuffa have more suitable boots in their range I think the "Country Rider" or summat like that.

I've had two pairs of the Suffolk, lovely warm winter boot but I wouldn't ride in them.

oooh, i'll wait for replies. i went to buy some the other day (liked them online)... but in real life they seemed too chunky to ride in... so i didn't get any... but still need some winter boots...

i remember the days we were told only to ride in smooth soled boots with slight heel... now all the boots seem really chunky...

I have mine for years now and I absolutely love them! They did take a while to get used to riding in because of the chunky sole but for general hacking and basic schooling I found them absolutely fine.

Like others have said, due to the chunky sole they are not designed to be ridden in and they do a similar boot for this purpose.

Saying that, I rode in mine all the time and absolutely loved them. You just have to be careful about the size of the stirrup iron.
