I’m ordering a bed for the kennel. Kennel has a built in wooden platform so I thought a tuffies mattress bed on it might be the best option. The durasoft looks like it wouldn’t need any other cover on top, or would you recommend a wipe clean one and a removable fleece topping?
I’ve never seen one in the flesh. Ty.
 
We had one years ago and weren’t impressed at all, the Kaypock compacted quickly and if it got wet (we had spaniels) it stayed wet and went mouldy. In kennels I prefer the mesh off the ground beds and if necessary a good dog coat. Well insulated kennels without drafts. And multiple dogs for warmth of course! ?
 
Love ours, I never clean it since Mitch is clean in his crate. You can hose them if necessary and they’re hard to chew. Not sure you need a fleece cover, but they make them. They have a canvas like material, bit like an old New Zealand.
 
My daughter has had one for simply years, get the hose down cover, they are very strong. She does have a fleece topper which she put on for an old dog but it should be fine without. So many years of use and it looks like new, it hasn’t even gone saggy.
 
We have one. The washable with a hose sort. Really good. I made my own covers from some fleece. Sort of a pillow case thing, that I can wash and wash easily. Been going for years and still as good as new.

You are the only negative report I’ve ever heard about them!
Scout and Pep will be in together but with the sleeping platform a raised mesh bed isn’t possible.
 
We have a wipe-clean Tuffie with a Fluffy Tuffie cover. Has lasted really well (I think we must have had it well over 10 years). However, I wouldn't choose the Fluffy TUffie cover again, as the long pile picks up every bit of dirt going and is impossible to remove however much you wash or brush it. They do other covers though which would be a better option.
 
We have both the nests and the mattresses, and both the durasoft type and the wipe clean. We always use the covers on both styles and have 2 lots of covers per bed to allow for washing and drying. I have found that the wipe clean is much easier to deal with in respect of cleaning them. Hairs stick to the durasoft even through the covers and when washed off they do take a very long time to dry off even in warm weather, Tuffies say about an hour in the sun, but I have found that they take much longer to properly air off if you have used a hosepipe on them which you need to, to rinse them off. The wipe clean style dries off in about 10-15 mins when giving it a good wipe down, I use a small amount of Nikwax rugwash in hand hot water. I have found that there is no need to hose the wipe clean. With the durasoft style I give them a good scrub with a softish scrubbing brush and a small amount of rugwash. Both of our JRT's love their Tuffies, we have the Tunnel/hoodie style cover on the main mattress in the kitchen where they sleep at night, one of them gets herself snuggled up inside it when she goes to bed. They like to rest their heads on the sides of the nest style.

You're welcome, hope it has helped you to decide. I give them a fleece blanket as well to try to keep the covers cleaner for longer, but they both usually scrunch them up to use as a pillow.
 
I've got both types and the fleece, fluffy and tweed covers. The wipe clean and fleece covers work best in the kennels for me - the covers only get used in autumn/winter. The fluffy vet bed type covers get used on the indoor ones, the tweed on the nest in my bedroom solely to match the decor :D
 
Update…I don’t actually like them very much!
Excellent service. Bespoke sizing for the kennel beds. But… they are really hard, the dog may as well be sleeping on a bit of wood.
I am either going to sell them or keep them for a bit and see if they are useful come proper warm weather.
 
I purchased one with wipe clean cover years ago, willis the Terrier stepped on it, slipped off ? and wouldn't set foot on it again!
It was quite firm
 
Agree with Druid that they do soften down, ours was quite hard to start with. But now it is lovely and squishy and even the whippet loves it!
 
Mitch’s has a dent where he must snuggle down. It gives when he walks on it. They’re not, ime, snuggly beds, but great for cages/kennels/dogs who destroy nice beds. Ours must be over 15 years old, it was Jake’s.
