So this was our first completion since last report on Finvoy back in April. We did start at Ravensdale in July, but thanks to the hot weather decided not to run xc. We made the trip to Tullylish (near Banbridge Northern Ireland) on Saturday, we are 100% for fun Amateurs (and i am realtively new to eventing) and compete at Sportmans B level, (Novice Dressage and BE100 Sj and Xc). Dressage was pretty good, although the Judge wasn't overly generous in the class in general, the "shining star" of the class who normally has marks in the low 20s had a 29 , so we were very happy with a 33 dressage (2nd going SJ) a few poles in quite a slippy hard sj field. Moved us down to 6th or 7th before going Xc.
He (Flynn) sailed around the xc, which i felt that for PN level had some pretty decent questions, (fence 4 was a huge chase fence, but actually jumped really well ) i also decided to take the black flag option at fence 7, as there was huge ditch under the trakehner and i really didn't like the ground on the landing side (me, coward?? no!!). After that we also had a bit of a miscommunication at Fence 10, a hedge with a ditch in front and higher ground on the landing side (very technical description!! again to emphasise i am relatively new to xc) I think i should have stayed on the forward stride I initially saw, but for some unknown reason decided to check! He was very honest and managed to scramble through the hedge, and we proceeded stirrupless over a skinny(ish) log and through into the playground part where they then came thick and fast, including the coffin where he jumped so big over the ditch that we had to bounce to get out, again he was very honest! so we completed clear jumping. Clearly i have forgot how to judge time, and my long route at fence 7 cost us quite a bit of time, so we had 5 time penalties also (without which we would have been 2nd) but was happy to collect a 4th place rosette as it has been quite a while since we did anything competitive.
Please ignore the odd commentary and vocal encouragement, probably more for my benefit that his!!
Thanks for looking
