Posting for a friend of mine. Anyone got any experience with what this could be. My friends mare gets this every year around this time. She has very bad scour. Vet is baffled. Have tried antibiotcs, probiotics, bloods done and kidneys and liver are all normal. No infection, f hay not properly digested. Has had teeth done and wormed. Vet has done faecal egg count and no infestation. Anyone got any ideas at all? Last year this happened as well and I thought it was haylage cos she was moved onto hay. This year its happened with hay. The hay is good quality (as is the haylage). Anyone shed any light on whats going on?

Thanks

My first thoughts/guesses are grass and worms. Can she be taken off grass for a week or so and see if it settles? Hormonal changes for winter are something I wonder about too.
Soak the hay. If it's high sugar in grass and hay soaking will help.

Well, she is fine when on grass, its when she has hay that the problem starts. Also, she has had faecal egg counts done. Worms are not an issue. Very confusing.

ETS: Hay is already being soaked

have you had the hay anaylised? it maybe to high in something. Currently have a whole yard like it at the moment and we are stumped looking hay at the moment. would get it tested
