Tummy troubles

We have 2 lovely labs. A black lab, 11 years old and a fox red whi is 2.5 years. They are fed wheat and grain free biscuits and chappie. They have been on this diet for ages. Both look great. Over the last few months, nearly every other week one or both get a bad tummy where they have to be let out to go to the toilet on a regular basis. We live on a farm so I'm wondering if they pick something up as we have deer etc but then would expect them to be poorly more often. We have bought some pre and pro biotics to help but not sure it works.

Chappie, although it used to be used for upset stomachs is really not a great food long term, Do they eat poo? thats quite often what causes diarrhoea. If it continues you might need to get a sample taken and get vets to test it to see if they have a bug of some sort. Also make sure their worming is up to date.

IME most Labs have a cast iron constitution, so long as their food is not too rich. I wouldn't expect Chappie to be too rich. What are your biscuits made from?

Our Labs (and Rottweiler) are fed on Butcher's tinned meat and wheat biscuits with no problems. Knowingwhat Labs are like, I wouldn't be surprised if they are picking something up on the farm, either another animals's feed or poo of some kind.

I always thought labs could eat anything but the black one, even as a pup , has had a funny tummy. The fox red isn't as bad. They are wormed. Will have a look at biscuits but we chose them as we wondered if they were wheat intolerant or something. I thought chappie was really bland? We couldn't get any chappie at one point so went onto butchers. They were fine for a week or so then tummies were dodgy again which makes me wonder if it isn't the food but something they are picking up on walks. The black one is an absolute bugger for eating deer poo so we have to keep a close eye on her.
