Just wanted to know if anyone has any experience of a tumour in the udder - we have been treating for months with antibiotics with the vet thinking it was mastitis, we have swab tested every month to check the bacteria type and levels and have altered the type of antibiotics to suit. We had the udder scanned by a specialist who thought that there were encapsulated abbcess present in the udder. Mare has been on prascend to dry up the milk producing ducts. 12 months later and the swelling in the udder and the vet is beginning to suspect its a tumour.
Has anyone had any experience ? I am at a bit of loss at where to go next. Vet is currently booked to come back and re scan to see if we can see any changes but now suspects a tumour

Hopefully the scan will show the extent of any tumours, whether they are malignant or benign and whether they can be removed. Together you can discuss a management plan.
One of my donkeys had a foal but wouldn't let it suckle, even though she looked after it in every other way ( 2 hrly feeds!!). A few months later her teat/udder started swelling even though she had dried up and the vet felt a mass. She successfully had a removal of the teat and surrounding tissue, definitely cancer. She lived for another 12 years before she developed other tumours.

I've only ever seen one case and unfortunately on biopsy it came back as fairly nasty, and as the pony was elderly with other health conditions we therefore didn't attempt removal.
Hopefully the scan gives you some answers. I took a punch biopsy (sedated and local anaesthetic) with that case, but they might be able to take a small sample with just a needle to send off for lab analysis?

Hi, can I ask if you’ve had any progress on this?
